Schhol and area questions

I have been looking at the catchment areas for certain high schools. The schools I have been looking at our

Willeton High school

John Curtin high school

Meliville senior school

Rossmoyne senior school

The areas to live in for these scools (well some of them) are:

Riverton/Willeton/Bull creek/Bicton/East fremantle/Palmyra/north fremantle/Attadale/Willagee/Rossmoyne/Bretnwood

Can anyone advise what the areas are like to live in for a family with two children and what the schools are like. If any of them are private schools then they can get ruled out. My daughter will be high school age but my son will be primary school so need to make sure there are good primary schools nearby to that he would get into. If anyone can recommend primary schools around the above areas to that would be great :smile:

I'm not sure of the areas and schools to be honest but if these are high achieving State Schools then the likelihood is rents will be very expensive. Private schools can be as little as $5k a year which could be a lot cheaper than renting in an expensive good school catchment area.

Hi I live in Willetton, my son goes to Willetton high school and my younger kids go to Rostrata PS. Both are fantastic schools, and the area is really nice. It is an older suburb but has everything you need and only 20 mins from Perth. Rents in Willetton are coming down and there are a lot more rentals available now than there was when we first moved here in 2012.

Willetton High school has a very strict catchment area, it literally comes down to what street you live in, and in some cases although you live in Willetton you are actually zoned for Rossmoyne HS which is a bonus, as it is also a great school.

Top four State schools in Western Australia are consistently Rossmoyne, Willeton, Shenton College and Churchlands. I disagree with previous post andcwouldcpayvextracrentvto get in the catchment areas for these schools rather than pay for a mediocre private school. These schools beat many of the private school hands down. Rossmoyne and Willeton are the top SOR, John Curtin runs a specialist art, music and drama programme and is worth considering and Melville is ok and a good area. You'll be fine with any of these, older established areas with bigger gardens and good family facilities.

If you can afford it then fine. However from the posters previous comments about salary, it might not be do able. Also not every private school is mediocre .

Depends on what sort of child you have too. I sent my eldest to a middle tier private school. She hated it and I ended up having to move her half way through year 10 to a seriously mediocre state school. However, she has just graduated year 12 with the award for academic excellence. Go and take a look around the schools, go with your gut feeling and listen to your child about their feelings.
