457 concerns

Hi all, I am currently living in Shoalwater, near Rockingham. I am just over a year into my 4 year visa. My concerns are while I love it here in oz, my job has since been removed from the skilled list( I am a conveyor belt splicer, currently FIFO) what would this mean if I were to apply for PR further down the line? would I be refused PR because it is not on the list anymore? read a lot of conflicting stuff as well about 457 renewals and wondered if that is still possible?

cheers

Robbie

Sorry don't know the answer to that one, but I would be a bit concerned too. I guess thre might be provisions for someone already on a 457 to proceed through the transition stream, but I just don't know.

What occupation code were you under anyway? Maybe it has just come off the SOL but is still on the CSOL?

Hi Bungo, Thanks for the reply. my occupation code is 711516-rubber production machine operator. I cannot find it on those lists and the state priority list now has it listed as "not identified as priority"

hopefully this may change as I believe two of large rubber companies(fenner Dunlop and rema) have appealed the decision to remove it from the skills list.

Gosh, I am amazed you even got the 457, I didn't think there were any occupations up in the 7s that qualified. I am afraid I will have to leave this one to other posters, have you spoken to a migration agent? Might be worth a quick consultation.
