Good Accountant for OZ tax return? - being paid by the UK still

Hi All,

 

I need a little bit of advice....

 

To summarise my situation:

 

I'm based Melbourne - (Beaumaris)

I'm here on a 457 visa (2 and a bit years)

I am still employed and paid by my UK company in GBP

I've stopped paying tax in the UK (which you can do after 12 months)

 

So, I need to submit a tax return and get a tax bill for my 2013/14 salary.

 

I need a good accountant who knows what I should be paying and more importantly what I can claim against my tax so I don't have to pay as much...

 

My accountant last year was terrible, I had to prompt him for things like claiming back my car allowance etc...

 

I just need someone that will tell me exactly what I can claim back and sort it out for me.

 

Anyone in Melbourne had any good experiences with local bayside accountants (who specialise in UK to OZ taxes)?

Seven years ago I emailed Alan Collett who is a regular contributor on PIO, and business man, http://www.gomatilda.com. He is a registered immigration agent, but my question was, like yours, taxes....mine being USA to Aus and vice versa. Alan connected me with a major Aussie accounting firm, and a contact of his in the Melbourne office. The chartered accountant who took on our case was golden. I would highly recommend you contact Alan and run by him any of your questions.

Yup I would recommend Alan too - He is qualified in both the UK and Aus, having offices and staff in both.

Not cheap, but can sort out Oz and Uk tax in one shot.

Most and not all australian accountants that I have come across are useless..I sometimes wonder if they get back handers from the ATO...Most, not all will be on the side of the ATO and NOT yours..pick carefully..
