lauradarlin
Just started a new job in a patisserie/coffee shop...trying to find out what the pay award should be for a casual employee - can anyone help? I worked Anzac day and was paid the same hourly rate as every other day. Previously worked in a restaurant and got pretty much double time for public holidays as well as a higher rate for Saturdays and Sundays. Any guidance? Thanks
Freckleface
It will depend on which award you are employed under and what your role is classified as. If you know that you should be able to google the award rates specific to your role in WA (assuming your location is correct).
lauradarlin
Hey, thanks Freckleface, any idea how I find that info out? As a new employee I really don't want to rock the boat asking too many questions but still want to be treated fairly!
Freckleface
If you don't know what award you are on you are going to have to ask your employer. It could be one of several. If it was me I would just be up front and skip all the digging around and just ask why you didn't get penalty rates on ANZAC day as you used to get them in your last job and thought it would be the same. If you ask about it nicely they shouldn't think you are rocking the boat. It could just be a payroll error. They happen.
rosiew
Ring up Fairwork Australia (google the number) and they have an advice line - I'm pretty sure - and they will tell you.
