Strange question but what am I? A uk resident or an Australian resident? I first came to oz in jan 2012, left in may 2012, had my baby early in the July so stayed until feb 2013 then returned July 2013 (child classed as tourist) returned to oz oct 2013! & intend to head back to the uk end July 2014 for good

It probably depends in part on why you are asking the question - resident for tax purposes? resident for benefit purposes?

I would say you are a resident of Australia as that where you are currently living, unless you are staying in a hotel/temporary accommodation and your income is being generated in the UK.

On returning to the UK if you do intend to claim any benefits you will need to prove you are 'habitually resident'
