Change of plans - quick question(s)!

Hi everyone,

Some of you will already be familiar with our plans (which were originally to get a transfer or job sponsorship), but a metaphorical spanner has flung its way into the works (my oh's company is no longer transferring anyone) and we're not sure how successful we will be in finding sponsorship from an Aussie employer :cry:. To this end, we are going to attempt a 190 - that is, PR via state sponsorship. We only get 30 points so need a combination - or ideally all - of the following to gain those extra 30 points:-

* IELTS 7 or 8

* Skills assessed as equivalent to those of an Aussie Bachelor Degree

* 8 years' work experience

* State sponsorship (hopefully Victoria)

My questions are:-

(1) Who assesses my oh's work experience? ACS or DIAC? What does he need to show to prove it? He's always worked in IT so will any IT job be classed as a 'closely-related occupation' to his current one - that is, of pen tester / security consultant (262112 ICT Security Specialist on the ANZSCO / CSOL);

(2) What does the skills assessment look like? Does it say, for example, "positively assessed as 262112, with x years' experience, equivalent of Australian diploma / bachelor degree, etc."?

(3) How hard is the IELTS, and is it realistic to hope to achieve an 8 (or, at least, a 7)? I've heard it's pretty tricky but as a British passport holder automatically gets a '6' I was hoping that one - or two - notch(es) up wouldn't be too much harder... :skeptical:

(4) Our SkillSelect expires in July, but I've read that you can have two simultaneous applications, so presumably if we are successful with the skills assessment and state nomination, then we would have to apply for a new SkillSelect for a 190 (our existing one is for a 457)...? :unsure:

If all of the above fails then we will have to put all our eggs in the 457 basket and hope someone is willing to sponsor my oh (and also go down the 186 direct entry route with him).

Thanks for reading!

I-F :-)

Hmmm you might be right. Do they charge for advice before committing to instructing them...?

They usually offer a free consult. After that you'd probably be having to pay.
