Poms in Toowoomba ! Where are you??

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Just thought I would shout out to see if there are any fellow poms living in Toowoomba. We moved here a few months ago and what with work and the kids we have not really connected with the locals.

Then I had the idea that there must be some poms here with whom we can whinge about all things Australian, reminisce about home and then come to the conclusion we are in the best place in the world! Well Australia I mean, maybe not Toowoomba!

Please get in touch.

Hi hope you are enjoying life in Toowoomba. We (Myself , husband and our two boys aged 7 & 10) We moved here a year ago from Yorkshire after my husband got a job here. We are loving life in Oz! Toowoomba is great for family life. The cold weather shocked me though, I wasn't prepared for the bitterly winds haha.

Just having my occasional nose on PomsinOz and noticed your post, my wife and I moved to Toowoomba with our nine year old daughter back in June, since then we have met two British families and have become firm friends, one family live in Highfields, the other in Kearneys Spring, we live in Middle Ridge.

We have just made some Aussie friends too which is nice.

How are things with you now?

Chris

Hi

We're moving to Middle Ridge at the end of the month so would love to catch up with any poms who are in Toowoomba, once we've unpacked! :cute: We moved from the UK in 2013 and have been living in Adelaide, but have just accepted a job in Toowoomba - neither of us have been so hopefully we've picked a good place to live.

If anyone can recommend good coffee shops, restaurants, places to walk the dog etc… (?any pubs) it'd be much appreciated. We've made a good group of friends through Poms in Adelaide so hopefully we can do the same in QLD!

Looking forward to the move, we'll miss the beach but it just means we'll have to go on weekend trips to the coast instead :)

Only just saw this post Claire and Ant, hows life in Toowoomba?

Hi ToowoombaBlue, only just saw your post! It's been a busy few months, just moved again, from Middle Ridge to Highfields, hopefully here for a while now! :) Enjoying Queensland life so far, just need to start socialising again and discovering the area more.

Hi Guys, how are you finding Toowoomba? We are sort of torn between Townsville and Toowoomba. The main reason being is that these are really the only places where we could potentially be mortgage free.

We have never been to either place, but I get the impression that Towoomba has more job opportunities, and good education but on the down sound is much colder? (Please correct me if I am wrong). Townsville has the weather, beach location Maggie Island, but cant see much in the way of jobs and it appears utilites and shopping are way more expensive.

If you could please share your feedack with regards life in Towoomba, it would be a real help. Thanks x x x

2 very different places Brownsville (friends nickname for Townsville as it never rains) and Toowoomba where you can expect snow at certain times of the year. Toowoomba has a country town feel to it, quite agricultural feeling especially as you continue West, quite quiet and simple. I prefer Brisvegas but equally that's not for everybody.

Cant upset the good people of Toowoomba as there with work on Friday afternoon!

If you could have experienced the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers, you would have moved here at the drop of a hat. Toowoomba is quite possibly one of the most beautiful places on earth this time of year (its pretty good at the other times of year too).

As with all places, there are areas to avoid, such as Rockville, Wilsonton, Harlaxton and parts of the northern area of the city, but the rest of it is rather lovely. There are more Brits in Highfields than anywhere else, although there are quite a few in Middle Ridge and Kearneys Spring.

It very much depends on what you require from a place, if you love a hectic pace of life with a vibrant nightlife, then Toowoomba isn't for you. However if a more relaxed local lifestyle is your preferred option, then you could do worse than to explore the area.
