Aussie Bank Account.

Do I need to keep my Aussie Bank Account open....

 

i will ill be doing a tax return with the ATO, if I am due one, will they pay any rebate into my UK account or do I have to keep my Aussie one open?

 

i would like to tie everything up over here before I return and I have been advised it's not that easy to close a bank account in Au from overseas.

 

any advice will be greatly recieved.

I kept mine open for that very purpose - I don't know whether you need to though.

Don't thinkthe ATO will pay the funds into an overseas bank account but if you use someone like this http://www.elodge.com.au/Tax-Information/support/Nonresident-Tax-FAQ.aspx they can do it, for a small fee of course.

we're thinking of keeping ours open, then if we visit in the future transfer money into it from uk

With regards to closing my bank account I spoke to the girl at my local branch in Sydney and told her the situation...didn't know if I would stay in the UK or return back to Sydney. She said if u don't return just e mail me and I will close your account. I did, and she closed it.

make sure your bank doesn't charge you to keep your account open if that's what you plan to do, with no money going in it was $5 a month to keep it open.
