stacybird123 Posted March 7, 2008 Share Posted March 7, 2008 Course: Certificate III in Floor Finishing & Covering at Holmesglen Institute of TAFE Check out the link above and scroll down to the units at the bottom, note you only have to do 27 of these units and not all of them depending on your specialisation........, the training college im dealing with have told me today that they are just awaiting clearence from the goverment but are very optimistic for exsisting carpet and vinyl fitters here to gain a aqf levell 3. Basically ive been told to start getting as much evidence together now, photo's, letters, references, proof of apprenticeship etc, basically anything that will prove my competence of the 27 units in the link above. I would recommend any carpet or floor finishers to start doing the same if they don't wish to hold out for pathway d to come back. I've been told to make a portfolio documenting my proof and evidence of my competence, once the college see's your evidence and are happy with it you then have to have a final assessment by a college here in the uk, this is the great thing you don't have to fly out to oz to do it. The only negitive is the cost will be around £1700, but half of whats been quoted on here and a proper registered college in floor covering. i will let you know more once he gets in touch again. jason Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)/Recognition of Current Competency (RCC) will be considered for each participant based on their specialisation, which could either, be carpet, timber or vinyl stream. The remaining units to be completed to achieve the full accreditation of the Certificate III in Floor Covering & Finishing program will then be discussed with the participant/his employer and a training plan devised to fulfil those requirements. I believe 27 units don't have to be completed, i think i got that wrong going by the above. I'll find out..................i also found these note on the original course for an aprentice and it does state that units to be completed depending on your specialisation.............ill find out though The Certificate III in Floor Covering & Finishing comprises of approx. 27 units to be completed over a 4-year period for an apprenticeship. TheBrammies Posted March 7, 2008 Share Posted March 7, 2008 aren't they about to release the details of the replacement for pathway d i reckon all you will need to do is pass an exam or test in this country at a venue of therec choice because i bet 90% of carpet fitters have no qaulifications just like you (and me)but have years of experience i worked for a local company but in oz will be self employed i bet so should earn more money than i do here they need fitters so they have to have a system for you to go through i know its disappointing and frustrating for you but be patient all comes to those that wait ps also the less of you that get a visa means more work for me (only joking im sure things are going to change soon so you can start the great journey) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Guest roantreemj Posted March 7, 2008 Share Posted March 7, 2008 I have heard a whisper off several people that most of the aussie fitters do about 30- 50m a day and are happy to bugger off home at dinner if they can,,what we going to do when we used to laying 100m plus,,,it will be like semi retirement,,myself i dont realy sub for anyone anymore,prefer to source my own work through adverts,word of mouth etc,,done all the carpetright and independant shop malarky,nothing like doing your own work though,,at least you know if something goes wrong its down to you from start to finish. Hi Zoe TFIA conducts skills assements in the UK for Floor covers in all streams. We have conducted 3 workshops in 2008 and have accredited 15 UK layers into the Australian AQF III trade. If you require more information email me on pgavaghan@tfia.com.au We are the only Australian flooring industry organisation to conduct both Australian and UK assements in all streams.
