legalalien
Hello all Is it me or is it nigh-on impossible to find information on line for Tasmanian companies or services? It seems like hardly anyone has their own website, or occasionally a half-hearted entry in some yellow pages style directory. I was looking for a building surveyor earlier today and the only one that had a website was a company that looked like it specialised in large construction projects. This phenomenon does seem to occur often when I try to search for something. Legalalien
runslikeafish
I must admit I have come across that although you can find a good percentage of Tassie businesses online in certain industries. I work in IT and from what I can gather, more and more companies are creating an online presence so hopefully the situation will improve soon. Are you in Tassie? Word of mouth is a large factor in business promotion here!
Skani
I think Tasmanian companies in general have been very slow to appreciate the significance of a good online presence - and I suspect that they are only now starting to wake up to the realities of business in 2013. Tasmanian companies may have been particularly complacent in this regard because, as runslikeafish mentioned, the grapevine has been such a powerful medium here - in all sorts of ways. I personally have found it frustrating because I like to research a product/service online before I buy - even when buying from a bricks and mortar outlet - and I do wonder how much businesses might be losing by not having decent websites. Sapphire
Usually word of mouth, is the best way here.A company can have an "all singing and dancing ", website but word of mouth is always the best way forward here....well thats what we have found. We know of several companies that have huge ads and a fantastic website, but I honestly would not touch them with a bargepole. Usually we have found the companies that do not need to advertise are the better ones, they simply do not need to, as everyone recommends them,by word of mouth. It can be very frustrating, not being able to find what you need online,I know from past experience. We do not even bother now, 6 years has taught us who to speak to, and find what we need, but it can be very frustrating when you do not have contacts. Guest The Pom Queen
When we first arrived I would say only 10% of companies had websites, thankfully things are progressing.
