LJL Posted July 27, 2013 Share Posted July 27, 2013 Hi all, New to the site and was looking for some feed back from people who live or have lived in Perth/Western Australia regarding construction management positions. About me: I am a fully qualified carpenter but moved in to the role of construction supervisor/manager a few years ago. My partner and I moved to Brisbane in May 2009 but moved back to the UK in August 2011 due to my younger brother falling ill and felt we were too far from family if anything went wrong (Brother is now fine). We now have a little girl (born Feb 2013) and I have a really good job as a contracts manager for a local construction company. The Problem: We always talk about moving back to Aus (almost every day/night) but come to the overall conclusion that unless I had a similar job or a good income set in stone then it would be way too risky to just move. It was a big step when we moved to live in 2009 but we didn't have any children then. We unfortunately do not have the funds required to move and then start looking (even if we did I still don't think she will agree:unsure: - I don't blame her as I certainly wouldn't want the pressure of trying to find a job once we left everything behind). I have applied for jobs but as you can imagine, not many employers will be looking to employ someone who resides in England:frown:. Can anyone give me some advice (preferably helpful)? PTobin Posted July 29, 2013 Share Posted July 29, 2013 Hey LJL, What Construction Management area do specialise in is it house building, Bridges, or Civil Engineering works? At the moment there is alot of house building and commercial construction going on in the Perth area as well as a few Civil Engineering projects on route or in the pipeline. LJL Posted July 29, 2013 Author Share Posted July 29, 2013 Hi PT, The company I work for specialises in refurbishment (commercial, industrial - nuclear power plants, housing association, etc) extensions and the odd house build (They don't seem to want to go into the private or house bashing sector - probably to do with profit margins I would expect) so my experience is based around this. I would ideally be looking for a similar role or as a finishing foreman to be in place before we moved (probably not easy I know). Are you in the construction industry?
