  1. Thanks everyone. Thought as much. I was a little concerned at how long we would end up in short term accommodation and trying to guess when to have belongings shipped etc. Anyone rented recently? How many weeks on average to secure a rental? Thanks
  2. Hi All, Moving to Brisbane in Feb. Was wondering if it is possible to have a 6 month rental ready for when you arrive? If so, how did anybody manage this? If not, what timescales would I be looking at before I secure one - 3 bed property south of the river (I appreciate the current market is hot right now). Would I need to secure work first or could I pay for the rental term upfront? We lived in Brisbane for a few years some 10+ years ago and recently holidayed there, so we know the areas we would like to live in, just not sure if things have changed somewhat (apart from housing market going mad). Any advice is appreciated. Thanks
  3. Hi Domo/Jia, Apologies for the late reply. I didn't get any notifications that there were more replies. I've been through the visa process for perm residency previously (13 years ago - Carpenter). However, I returned to the UK (10 years ago), and have now started looking into the visa process again. My circumstances have changed, as I now have children and I'm now a construction site manager (8 years exp). I have looked into the RRV (as mentioned above by Paul Hand) but the chances of achieving this is very low and as my circumstances have changed, I would need to go through the visa process for the rest of my family anyway. I will make contact with Vetassess on qualifications, as there is nothing on their website that gives a definitive answer. It would be good to hear from any site managers who have gone through the process already. Anyone know of someone on here? Many thanks.
  4. Thanks for the replies everyone. @paulhand I’ve sent you a DM.
  5. Thanks for the reply, however, don’t I ‘technically’ need to have been working as a carpenter recently?
  6. Hi All, I’m exploring the best route for a visa and would like to know if anyone has information on what Vetasses require in the way of qualifications for site managers. I can always apply as a carpenter, as I have NVQ 3 in carpentry and joinery (10 years exp as a carpenter), but I have been a site manager for the past 7 years and would be seeking a management role in Aus. I have CIOB level 4 in site management, SMSTS, First Aid etc. Is this enough? Thanks
  7. Hi, My query is that is it the best option to alter my CV to state I have been working as a carpenter rather than a site manager? I'm a qualified carpenter but I've been working in a management position for the past 6 or so years.
  8. Does anyone have any info on this? Shall I apply as a carpenter and just change my CV to state I have been working as a carpenter only?
  9. Hi All, I hold a site managers qualification and have been working in a site manager/project manager role for around 6 years. I am also a qualified carpenter. I have looked on the SOL and Carpenter is on there but the nearest to my current role is Construction Project Manager. I do not possess the qualifications to apply for the latter but as I have not been employed as a carpenter for many years how do I go about applying for a 189 visa under this umbrella? Many thanks
  10. Out of interest....how are you getting on? How was the flight and trip over? Where in Brisbane are you now?
  11. So this is where my taxes go? Thread makes me fill a bit sick....If you cannot afford to do something without hand outs then don't do it! The system was never built to help everyone live lovely life styles. It was intended to help the people that actually NEED it (i'm not sure that people know what this means today). Choosing not to work for what ever reason should not mean you get rewarded with government assistance. I know many won't agree with the above statement but these will probably be the ones who take advantage of the system.
  12. Hi Colin, I am in a similar position. The only things that differ is that my partner and I have spoken many times about moving back over but have never really come to any real conclusion. We both have OK-good jobs, house, friends etc here but i would like for us to spend our daughters school life (at least) in Oz. Not only this but we really miss the way of life. She is slightly more reserved on packing up and going and seems to not really be swayed either way. If she said 'no' then i would be totally on board and forget it (well...not mention it again!)...if she said 'yes' then we would be packing now! Yet all i seem to have received for the last few months is....'i don't really know'. I understand where she is coming from as i am also in two minds. Do we give up what we have here for the 'off chance' we may find what we are looking for in Oz or do we put the experience down to a good one and get on with life here? Such a difficult question. I just wish she would have more of an opinion on the subject. My partner and I had a conversation tonight about it all and we keep coming to the same point....if we go, we would be leaving the house and have to start all over 'if' we came back. Is taking our daughter away from family members long term be the correct decision later on in her life, etc, etc. What to do????:arghh:
  13. Will do! Many thanks for the replies all!
  14. Apologies, May 6th 2009 - August 28th 2011. Exp of visa was 14th March 2014. I have just read the below on the immi website and don't really know if would apply to our circumstances or not? My brother was quite ill while we were in Australia which contributed to the decision for my partner and I to return. The birth of our daughter in Feb 2013 meant that any plan to return was put on hold...........until maybe now. You might be able to be granted this visa if you: have spent a period totalling two years in the last five years in Australia as either an Australian permanent resident or citizen (the 'residence requirement'). have not spent two of the last five years in Australia as a permanent resident or citizen, but can satisfy the processing officer that you have substantial business, cultural, employment or personal ties of benefit to Australia, and: are lodging while in Australia and can show compelling reasons for any continuous absence from Australia of more than five years; are lodging while overseas, were a permanent resident or citizen when you last departed Australia and can show compelling reasons for any continuous absence from Australia of more than five years; are lodging while overseas, were a permanent resident or citizen in the last 10 years and can show compelling reasons for absence(s) over five years; [*]have not spent two of the last five years in Australia as a permanent resident or citizen, but are the partner or dependent family member of a person who holds a subclass 155 visa, or who has also applied for a Resident Return visa and satisfies criteria for grant. Subclass 157 Resident Return visa You might be able to be granted this visa if you: have lawfully spent at least one day in the past five years in Australia have spent less than two years in the past five years in Australia have been a permanent resident or an Australian citizen for the entire period spent in Australia can show a compelling and compassionate reason for having to leave Australia or, if you are outside Australia, for leaving when you did If you have been living outside Australia for more than three continuous months immediately before applying, you must also show that you were absent for a compelling and compassionate reason.
  15. Hi, I lived in Brisbane from 2009-2011. I have looked into the RRV but it states 'exceptional circumstances' after a period of 2 years from exp of visa date.
  16. Hi all, wondering if if someone can advise. I went through the vetassess process when I was issued a skilled visa in 2009. If I were to start the visa process again (original visa has expired and new one needs to include partner and child), would I need to do this part all over again? Also, can anyone recommend a decent migration agent? Many thanks
  17. Thanks for the reply. Seems very strange that you can get assessed as a tradesman without formal qualifications to obtain a skilled visa but cannot get the same for supervisors/management? In the UK quite a lot of management were once tradesmen as experience in the industry seems to account for more than a piece of paper. I don't mean to offend anyone by this, just that you get found out pretty quickly unless you have the required experience. Looks like I may have to go back to college then!
  18. Hi, I am a contracts manager (construction) in UK and have noticed a site supervisor licence is needed in QLD but was wondering if this was the case in WA? If so, I have no formal qualification as a supervisor (qualified carpenter but been in a contracts manager position for last 4 years). Can anyone clarify what and where licensing is required for me to work in similar role? Apologies if this has been answered but cannot seem to find it anywhere? Lee
  19. Hi all! Sorry to go slightly off topic but how are the carpenters finding work situation at the moment? I lived in Brisbane from 2009 to 2011 and work was ok then but not fantastic, just wondered if it has changed in any way? Busier or slowing down? Thanks
  20. Bridging visa (as onshore to give time to submit required docs), then temp partner visa (moved back within the 2 years) and then refusal of perm partner visa due to not submitting required docs. I appreciate what you are saying and understand that some people wish to go through an agent but I have gone through a couple of visas myself with help from forums and the immi website. I'm not in a desperate position seeking immediate answers, I was just testing the water to see if anyone had been through something similar. Thank you all very much for your comments. You never know, I may take your advice and speak with an agent in the future.
  21. Hmmm??? I'm sorry snifter but I find that a little rude. Medicals for on shore were requested and supplied within a few months of applying, uk police checks the same. As we moved back and let them know of our move they then requested these items. We filled out various forms of evidence on submittion. The doc's I was talking about was a sworn testimony each filled out separately and signed by a JP and the aus police checks.
  22. We applied around 3 years ago in Australia, you get given a bridging visa whilst you collate all the evidence and docs they need before granting a partner visa. This could take over 2 years hence why the 3 year time scale. I believe the missing doc's were an Australian police check and our written testimonies to how and where we met etc. Because we thought we would not go back it was put on the back burner and forgotten about until now. It was only a question to see if anyone has any similar experiences or knowledge. It may be a little messy but after going through a couple of visa processes already I'm sure I will get the write answers from researching the immi website and this forum. Thanks for all the advice, it has been much appreciated.
  23. Many thanks for your advice. My partner was on a bridging visa awaiting approval for a partner visa. Apologies for using the term cancelled, I meant refusal. I think i will do some considerable research. We would like to keep our options open just in case. I remember how long it took for me to obtain my visa originally and didn't want to go through it again if I could help it. Thanks again
