Please help - 189 visa

Hi all, we are wanting to start the 189 visa but avoid using an agent where possible. Is the first step to do the EOI? does anyone know how much this costs? im guessing once this is done you wait for an invitation to apply?

 

or is there another step before the EOI?

the steps are. Check your occupation is on Sol 1 and eligable for 189 and check on skill select the occupation ceiling hasnt been reached. Add your points up and make sure you have 60 or more and can prove beyond doubt the points you claim.

 

Obtain a valid skills assessment and do the IELTS if you need the extra points.

 

Once you have that its free to lodge the EOI.

 

You will then be invited to lodge a visa application, how quickly depends on the number of points.

Have you read this booklet of instructions? it's on the skills select website, on the first page of the visa you wish to apply to. Page 15 tells you what documents you need to have prepared prior to lodging an EOI. One of these prior requirements is a positive skills assessment.

If you are going to do it without an agent, entirely possible, this booklet will need to become your new bible. You need to read it carefully and make sure you understand all the stages etc.
