barnsey10
Hi, our parents are seriously considering a CPV and coming with the rest of the family to Aus from the UK. The MIL has arthritis and a such will need to pay for a few drugs that she requires. I understand as a CPV they will get medicare from day 1. Questions are .... 1. How does the PBS Safety Net work for a 66 and 69 year old migrant retiree ?? 2. Would they be considered for the Concessionary Card for medical requirements ?? Thanks in advance Tony
Quoll
It is subject to the 2 year new residents requirement so they would get no help in the first two years. After that it is means tested so if they have reasonable means then they are unlikely to get a concession card. The safety net comes into play once you have spent about $1400 in a year as it does for anyone of any age. http://www.humanservices.gov.au/customer/enablers/centrelink/commonwealth-seniors-health-card/eligibility
