Skyba
I know that the injection needs to be done within 12 months of leaving, then not before 6 months of having it. But does anyone know whether if there was a delay for any reason and you couldn't leave in that 6 month window, is it a case of topping it up and just going or would you have to wait a further 6 months and do the whole process again? Rupert
Once you have been through the initial process, involving the wait and blood tests, you need to keep up annual boosters. If you do not keep up with the annual booster, then you would need to start the whole process again. But if you do keep up the boosters, then that is it. Skyba
I thought this may be the case. Thanks for the info
BobPetairUK
Dear Skyba Exactly as Rupert says - an initial rabies vaccination has to be at least 6 months before flight ((due to rabies blood sample rules), but a booster can be done anytime before the flight date. Key thing is if you are delayed to get the rabies blood sample done within 12 months of the first one and that way your cat can still serve the minimum quarantine. memmymooch
The 150 day period prior to leaving the uk is that from the date of the blood test? Am I right in thinking that if my boy had test on Jan 5th he can fly from around June 5th? Mem
BobPetairUK
Dear Mem Yes exactly - the 150 day wait is from the date of the blood test. so your dates are right. However, if you are going to Perth then you need to start a bit sooner as they have a long waiting list there, so if you leave it too late to start things then you wont get a space for your cat to land in June and your cat's flight will be delayed.
