OZ lander
Hi everyone We are moving in July to Canberra! I've been reading a few threads regarding visa 457 and the difficulty to get jobs. What about visa 176... Is it the same issue? Can I get jobs in the public sector? Thanks for your help! Cheers OzLander!

pntaylor
Many jobs in the public sector require security vetting which can only be obtained if you're a citizen. There are some, for example the ATO, which don't but when I was looking for jobs in IT there weren't that many that didn't require citizenship so the type of visa doesn't matter though, of course, a 176 is permanent resident which does have some bonuses over a 457. n30nra1n
Agreed without citizenship it is harder to find work in IT but certainly not impossible. State government (Shared Services) don't generally require it and of course there is a wealth of private sector and educational institutions. 176 does have a huge advantage over a 457 due to the permanent residency status. Good luck, just shout if you need anything. Sent from my RM-821_apac_australia_new_zealand_304 using Board Express
OZ lander
Thanks Does 176 stop me from starting my own business? Or do I have to show employment to ensure I get citizenship in 2 yrs?
