WHV Prescription Required

I don't about your need for medication, and don't know if this will help, but my daughter has epilepsy and came here on a WHV. She wasn't allowed more than 3 months medication, but did manage to wangle a few months more. It's advisable to check that you can get the same meds here and in the same dosage that you are used to taking. Her dosage is slightly different here, so had to be adjusted. She had a letter from her specialist with her with all the information in it. Saw a GP here and it was all sorted, but obviously she has to pay for her meds here, whereas they are free in UK. Also a good idea to either carry the letter with you always, or if relevant have a medi alert bracelet.

If you are travelling with medication, it's best to declare it on arrival and have your letter handy.

Have all your information backed up on computer, passport details, bank accounts, meds mob. phone details etc. and also on some one else's computer back in UK. She had her handbag stolen in Sydney with mobile phone and bank cards, and as we had all her details everything could be cancelled quickly. Sure you know this already, so sorry if this is old advice, but it might re-assure your parents. Also if you are bringing your UK mob. phone, get it unlocked in UK, saves a lot of hassle.

She came on her own and has coped fine, but we do live here so she had back up, but she was in Mexico for 2 years previously as well as Africa, so her epilepsy has never stopped her living life to the full.

Good luck, go for it and have a wonderful time.
