Great pubs in Darwin

I do indeed.

I think that they give a good picture of life in the Top End.

Seems little has changed from my time up there in 97. Although Alice was far worse for violence then. Considering the size don't think I've been in a worse place for violence anywhere. Do need to take care at times. Some of the British backpackers provocative at times as well. Saying that the locals didn't hold back. A bit raw and rough and ready but also good fun.

I did like Darwin though. The sunset markets always a good vibe. It certainly feels a different world up there.

Mate, you've obviously got a problem with Darwin and that's up to you, but to make out it's like I "bad night in Kabul" is just stupid. I've been to Darwin loads of times and had some great nights in the numerous pubs along the main street. Not seen any trouble or fights there and that includes being over there for weekends.

No doubt you can trawl through newspaper articles for just about anywhere in the world and dig up stories like this if you wanted too.

Admittedly Darwin can be a bit rough and ready. I went to the casino one night just for a change, to a really nice bar looking over mindil beach. The place had a big deck outside where you could watch the sunset. Only problem was I was the only one not smoking so it ruined it for me. I went into the bar and their was a girl in there covered in tats talking to the barmaid who she obviously knew. Expletives every other word 'cos she'd lost $2,000 in 2 days. Worked on the mines and was just there for a good time. Darwin has a few of those types around and a big Army and RAAF base close by, so a few defence people about, looking for a few beers and a good time. Mix this with a high number of backpackers and it's going to be lively.

Sure you could be in the wrong place, at the wrong time but that's the same the world over if you go in a bar. Darwin is no different to all the other places I've visited in Aus. You could be well right about Alice Springs, not been there so can't comment. The biggest cause of problems in Darwin is our indigenous brothers. They seem to hang around on the main street and in the park abusing people and just causing problems. I'm guessing the problems in Alice Springs might be the same culprits?

The pub is called "The Beachfront" now and is about the only pub in Darwin that doesn't have topless barmaids or strippers.

Lot of druggies seem to go there now.

You are writing crap mate. There isn't one pub on the main street that had topless barmaids or strippers. There is one club that has wet T-shirt comps and the like. The doesn't start till late though and there is always a queue to get in, so must be a decent night.

Sound like Northbridge Perth, I will think about it...honest.

See how it spreads!!! I've been into Northbridge loads of times and never had a problem. My Son is 22, goes a lot with his mates and the same for him. You have to be a bit streetwise wherever you go, in any country. If a place feels like it's going to go off any second and you don't fancy being a part of it, go somewhere else. If you fancy a bit of biffo, stay, someone will accommodate you.

Mate, I reckon I am qualified to give an opinion over what a bad night in Kabul looks like as I spent a few months there as a contractor.

I just find the pubs in town pretty nasty and the violence sickens me a bit.

The Army and Miner types don't worry me much, its the nutters who want to use glasses to settle a dispute that are the problem.

All I can say is if a bad night in Kabul resembles Darwin then the people drowning on upturned boats are doing it for no reason. Either that or Kabul is a pretty fun place to be.

Can I ask you a question, do you live in Alice or Darwin? I could see problems in Alice but have never seen what you describe in Darwin. Personally I love Darwin, but seriously this isn't doing much for your health getting so worked up about a place, and you aren't going to manage to sell your business if you keep telling people how rubbish it is.
