Have a read of this, might help

I'd say bring a reasonable supply (and ensure you can prove its for you). I doubt your GP is going to prescribe you a years worth of drugs without asking questions though. Its not the sort of thing they are really in a position to do. If you have a repeat prescription they may fill out an extra one or two for you but don't bank on it. I'd say bring enough to tide you over till you can set up getting it in Aus. So about 3 months worth. If you can bring a bit more fair enough, but remember the expiry date and so on.

Oddly enough, Australia does actually have prescription drugs available! I guess if you're coming here on a visa which doesn't allow you to receive medicare rebates you might think about shipping large quantities, but otherwise I don't see the point in doing so.

Personally, I'd be loathe to ship drugs because the temperature and humidity could become quite extreme, which may affect them & their efficacy.

We had prescription drugs with us on the plane as hand luggage. They are supposed to be kept in the fridge but the specialist advised that for 36 hours it 'didn't really matter' as long as it wasn't over 30 degrees.

Probably had around 5 boxes of pills and then 12 injections (kind of like epi-pens). Had a letter from the specialist just in case but we were not questioned at any point. Even when we had to take them all out of the bag to get the camera out which they wanted to have a look at!

We got as many as the specialist was able to give us (3 months supply) as it always takes time to get through the hospital system here. Been here 2 months and still no sign of appointments.....

They'll usually pay particular attention to any drugs that can be used as precursor products to make meth , find yourself a local gp you like (and swap around if you don't like them!) when you arrive and you'll be fine for future supplies (of your prescription drugs that is, not precursors)
