Hi hoping to be in Perth area in next year hubby in Autumn. Advice required - as a result of my 10 year old boy having e.coli when he was one he cannot digest Dairy wheat/gluten. He is not on any medication just strong diet control. We get no financial help from the Uk and certainly dont expect any in oz. Could anyone advise of good brands for dietary requirement food in Oz/ Perth region. Are there any places to eat out that specialise in dietary needs??

Thank you in advance.

Hi toonnut,

I have never lived in Perth but I have lived in Sydney with a child who required a complete elimination diet.We luckily lived very near Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and my daughter was able to see doctors at they allergy clinic there.check out their shopping list I am sure most of the brands will be available in WA http://www.sswahs.nsw.gov.au/rpa/allergy/resources/allergy/allergenfreeshoppinglist.pdf.they also do a great cookbook for people with allergies and intolerences. If your so drinks soy milk I have always found Bonsoy to be the best tasting though it is not as readily available as SoGood brand. I have found that Woolworths has a good selection of products . they also own a chain called macro (not sure if they have shops in WA) that sells whole foods.they do sell macro products on woolworths online though.http://www.woolworths.com.au/wps/wcm/connect/Website/Woolworths/About+Us/Our+Brands/Macro/ Sakata rice crackers are good snacks for kids with allergies. Freedom foods cereals are good and orgran brand baking mixes are also good . Sogood makes good soy ice cream and there are lots of good quality dairy free sorbets and gelatos. I always found that you have to be careful with soy yoghurt as lots of them have dairy starter cultures.I found there were lots more kids with allergies and intolerances in oz so I am sure you will meet Mums at school who can help you out Good luck

hi Summerhill

Thank you so much for your reply. Pleased you got your daughter sorted at hospital. it took us nearly two years fro diagnosis. I will have a look at your links and research into the brands you have mentioned. I Get a lots of stuff from different suppliers on line here in the UK. We have Alpro soya milk here he can have corn products so hopefully we will get by. I know oz is strict on bring foods in so find out as much as I can for my hubby to sort before i arrive with the kids.

Once again many thanks.

Hi

We are over in Brisbane but there is a massive selection of Gluten free products. Lots of restuarant menus and even bakeries have signs up.

It seems so much better catered for here than in the UK.

I even sent a picture from the supermarket to my coeliac friend in the UK to show her the selection and she was amazed.

I am sure it will be fine. x

I was going to post, but then saw all your questions have been answered :)

I'll post anyway - even if it's just to say Good luck and I'm sure you'll be absolutely fine!

(Even the local pizza places often have gluten free options here )
