thom1980
Hi Everyone, Once i get my residency, and served my time as a general duties police officer, i am a bit torn as to which area to specialise in. The 3 areas i am thinking is Detective, Dog Handler or Tactical Operations Unit. Can anyone shed some light on the working conditions and salaries in these specialist areas? Cheers Thom

thom1980
Ropey Hoff - The minimum age for NSW police applicants is 18. i'm not sure about other states. They should all have eligibilty requirements listed on their web sites. The NSW police website does not have any salary information on specialist areas. Jordconcal - To be a police officer in Oz, you need to be a permanent resident. at the moment, police officer is not on the skills list for migration as there is a long waiting list for applicants as it is, so there will be no shortage of applicants. What does your friend do? It is possible that they can come over on her job depending what she does, although they would have to wait to become residents (around 2 years here) before he can apply for the police. Otherwise, she should study to become qualified for a skilled migrant visa. All they need is the qualification and skills. Once they come over on that visa, they don't necessaraly have to work in that field onve they are here. I am lucky to be staying here as my wife is Australian. Perthbum - I'm not in the police here yet. I have to wait till i get my residency before i can apply - then i have to serve for 3 years in general duties before i can apply for a specialist area.
