Do you need PROOF of address when activating your account in Oz upon arrival?

We've opened a CommonWealth Bank account which we'll be activating upon arrival in Perth. However, at the time we do it we may well be staying in holiday accomodation and have no rental agreement or utility bills to provide proof of address.

Do the banks require proof before handing over your cards and allowing access to your money?

We opened a Westpac account in London prior to coming out. We stayed with a relative when we got here. All we had to do was show the letter they sent us and our passports as ID at our nominated branch and the account was activated.

yes we had the same with the commonwealth, they only required ID for the 100 point cheque(passport was fine), and they activated the account

Once we found somewhere to live, we just let them know our address

We had no problems
