  1. I should have given more context - yes, it's a large company with lots of experience dealing with visas and agent attached. I was sponsored by the same company and my 482 visa was approved within a month. He still has a valid 417 visa from before they stopped processing them until January 2021. The company are just nominating him for the visa now, I expect he will be able to apply for it in the next week. Just with 482 processing times being so varied, if he did arrive into Australia on his valid 417 visa and if his 482 application was still in process when that expired in January, would he be able to get a bridging visa?
  2. Correction- his 417 visa is actually expiring in January.
  3. Fair warning - this is a slightly convoluted question! My friend is currently in Ireland, trying to travel to Australia. He is an Irish citizen but holds an active 417 working holiday visa. He has an exemption to travel and has a flight booked for November 1st to Perth (hopefully it does not cancel). His 417 visa is due to expire in December. It was activated last year when he moved to Australia to work, however in March he had to fly hone to Ireland for personal reasons and has not been able to make it back due to caps on entry. His employers are nominating him for a 482 visa. He is legally allowed to travel back to Australia on his current 417 visa and if his flight goes ahead on November 1st that won't be a problem. I'm wondering what the best course of action regarding the 482 visa is. If he is nominated now should he apply while he is still in Ireland? I know the current process ing times are quoted at 4-5 months for offshore applications but I know from personal experience that they are processed faster when attached to a travel exemption. Or would it be better to wait until he came to Australia, then lodge an onshore application? Seems kind of risky seeing as he'd only have about 2 months left on the 417 visa. Or is there an option to change a visa application once made from offshore - onshore, would that expedite the process? Any advice would be appreciated!
  4. I can actually see a couple from HK to Perth in the last week on the flightaware site, and it did actually correlate with flights into Perth. Nobody seems to be making any noise about Cathay Pacific however - I wonder if they're mostly just cargo flights?
  5. Does anyone have any information about Cathay Pacific flights Hong Kong to Perth?
  6. Just to say - visa approved last night!
  7. My friend's exemption request portal is as shown - what does it mean when the status is still "under consideration" but the outcome status is closed??
  8. Laura, when you were granted your travel exemption did you include a screenshot of this or anything as part of your attached documents on the visa application? I'm just wondering how do they actually identify those with travel exemptions if it is two separate systems
  9. Just to update - exemption was granted today after applying last week! Visa still "received"
  10. Hey! Sorry this is a little bit messy but just looking for some guidance. I am an Irish doctor. I had been workingin Perth from August 2019 until March 2020 on a 482 visa but unfortunately had to travel home in light of the pandemic (my employers in Perth were supportive of this). Unfortunately my visa was cancelled. I have had to go about the entire process from scratch again, however I was already provisionally registered with AHPRA from last year. I have applied for a new visa and exemption to travel, sponsored by the same employers. Unfortunately my provisional registration is due to expire soon, will most likely be expired before anybody looks at my visa application. I have applied for renewal of my provisional registration and have been assured by AHPRA that this should be granted without any issues. I have spoken to an agent in AHPRA who says that my registration will still remain "in force" while my renewal is considered (will take approximately 6 weeks). I have requested an official letter from AHPRA stating this. My question is do you think it would be possible to have my visa approved when my AHPRA registration is technically expired? I have attached a statement explaining that I've applied for renewal and that my registration is still in force.
  11. Ya my visa was approved on the basis of in principal approval last year. I suppose I expected to be back long before the current registration expired, it crept up on me! Hopefully the letter of support from AHPRA stating that I've applied for renewal will be OK

  13. That's great to hear Holly! My sponsor is a health board as well. I'm just after hitting a snag - my situation was I had actually been in Australia last year from August until March and had to travel home urgently due to family reasons, so was provisionally registered with AHPRA already. Unfortunately my visa and everything was cancelled so I've had to start from scratch aside from the AHPRA application. However I am approaching the expiry date of my provisional registration with AHPRA - I have applied for renewal but was told this could take up to six weeks. My registration is still in force while they consider my renewal and I have attached a statement saying the same thing on my visa application. I know this is a bit complicated but can anyone comment on whether it would be possible to have the visa granted with a technically expired AHPRA registration?
  14. That's fantastic! How long in total were you waiting? Was your sponsor accredited do you mind me asking?
  15. I'm delighted to hear that! What supporting documentation did you give with the application?
  16. That's good advice at least! The migration agent registered with my hospital advised against it saying people had been refused without valid visas but I see much more sense in this approach.
  17. Hey Laura, God that sounds so stressful I'm so sorry! It's such a nightmare. So hard to make plans.
  18. Hi Holly, Thanks for your response. Where is that advice coming from can I ask? I had been advised otherwise by my hospitals migration agent but I can't see the sense in her advice. Are you currently waiting for both the visa and the exemption?
  19. Hi all, Was so glad to find this thread and see people in a similar position. I am a medical officer (not specialist) also (currently in Ireland), I have just applied for my 482 visa last week. Currently the time frame quoted on the immigration website is 75% processed within 3 months. Has anybody found this to be accurate? And to reiterate what is the time frame with the travel exemptions? Would people recommend applying for the exemption while the visa is still pending?
