  1. Thanks everyone for the feedback. We're not super worried about the bridging visa - our migration agent has multiple "plans of attack" if we need them, so it doesn't seem like that will be a particular problem - but it's really helpful to hear your experiences with property rentals.
  2. Thanks! Yes, our immigration lawyer said that a bridging visa would routinely be applied when our temporary visa came to an end, if our permanent visa had not yet been processed, though we may need to apply for it separately.
  3. Hi there, My partner and I are moving to Australia on a 417 working holiday visa from New Zealand. We will be in Melbourne for the entirety of that year. We also have a 186 visa in process: if it is not processed before the 417 expires, we'll hop onto a bridging visa and wait. Has anyone had any experience renting a property on a short-term visa? We are worried that our one-year visa could create problems with letting agents, even though our intention is to remain indefinitely in the long term. (We do not want flatmates!) Thanks!
  4. Does anyone know whether it is possible to reclassify your 186 application as onshore if you have originally applied for it offshore and are now in Australia? Thanks!
  5. We applied for an offshore 186 visa through my partner's work about a year ago -- no movement. His work has now applied for an 858 for him (and me by extension). As it's around a year since we applied, some of our background checks will expire soon. Should we be applying for new ones, or will Immigration accept the ones we've already uploaded?
  6. My partner and I are outside of Australia and have been waiting on a 186 to be processed since April. His company has now decided, on the advice of their lawyer, that he may be a good candidate for the 858 Global Talent visa. Has anyone had any success with this visa, and if so how long did it take? It seems unusual enough that there's not a whole lot of data around, unfortunately!
  7. Hi - has anyone had any luck contacting Immigration for an update on their visa? We're now way outside of the normal "five to six months" processing time -- we applied for a 186 (offshore) in April and haven't heard anything. Is there anything we can do? Immigration lawyer is completely useless, unfortunately.
  8. hello all! We applied for 186 DE offshore (from the US, we're Brits) in late April; my husband is a university researcher. Our lawyer has gone alarmingly quiet and we're hearing rumors that offshore/DE 186 processing has been suspended. Has anyone been granted an offshore 186 since the start of May?!
