  1. True, although on the portal it says 'Will you be returning to Australia?' I will, some time, but not in the next couple of years. I assume what they really mean is 'Will you be returning to Australia within the foreseeable future?"
  2. Thanks, that helps. Hopefully It won't be compassionate grounds for me as they're all okay, but things change.
  3. Thanks for that. Yes, it should be fine. The other question is when will borders here reopen, but I'm happy to stay put overseas for a couple of years anyway
  4. Yeah I'm not in a rush but I want to have all my ducks lined up for when I do go. Still waiting for citizenship (awaiting ceremony invite) etc. You seem to be referring to the UK; I'm going to Ireland but it's pretty bad there as well. I'm crossing my fingers that things will settle in the northern hemisphere summer, as they did last year. So that sweet spot might mean leaving Aus in about May, and by then I might have everything sorted and be vaccinated etc (I'm a HCW). Admittedly things are very good here in Aus at the moment but who knows what winter will bring.
  5. I had been planning for a couple of years to move back home around this time, pre covid
  6. Thanks for that info. I'm more concerned about getting out than getting back in
  7. Yes but I would plan to stay there for an extended period, get a job etc. Not just a quick few weeks home. More like moving home indefinitely
  8. I wonder what counts as compassionate grounds. Many of my family back home have and had covid but not very sick. But does 'i haven't seen my family for 2 years' count as compassionate grounds?
  9. Hi all, after passing the test on Dec 8 I was approved today. What's the average time between approval and being invited for a ceremony? And does the ceremony invite come via email or on the immi page?
  10. Is it a bad idea to move to Melbourne while waiting on citizenship? I've already passed the test and am still on 'received'
  11. Yep. If I don't hear anything by the end of next week I might try emailing
  12. Application still on received more than 1 month after passing test
  13. Nope still waiting. What about you? I'm not sure when the department opens again after Christmas
  14. Ah I see, so they are just running background checks probably. Hopefully done before christmas!
  15. Applied from Launceston in January, offered test in October, test done in December, test passed Dec 8 but application still pending
  16. Hi all, Passed my citizenship test 2 weeks ago, application still says 'received' - has anyone had this?
  17. Applied end of Jan, single male, in a good profession, transparent history. A bit disheartening reading about all the quickly processed applications in here. I'm in Tasmania, I wonder if that has anything to do with it
  18. Question: I'm a permanent resident waiting on citizenship - applied January 2020 and haven't heard anything yet. If I go on holidays overseas am I obliged to report this to the department?
  19. Anyone know if speeding fines might have a bearing on citizenship? I got a few fines and was offered a probationary period during which if I got more fines I would be off the road. The alternative was a short time off the road. I opted for the former and didn't get any fines. I now haven't had any fines in 3 years. Will this have a bearing on my application?
