With all due respect Ausvisitor It’s not as easy as that ,

it’s about how the test is structured

many find IELTS hard especially the writing section it’s often the area that people drop marks on , PTE is more reliable on results but some say it’s overall harder

google the two tests and do some practice and see which test feels more comfortable

Even if you are a native English speaker , regardless of which test you take you will need to practice I have taught  people with degrees in English who struggled with both tests

    Agree with you...

To put it into context I've got a masters that is heavily English language based and got 9,9,9,7.5 (7.5 in writing) as I don't write "balanced discussion" reports anymore (haven't for about 20 years)

Took the PTE and got 90 for everything straight across the board, despite only having a day between booking and taking test.

I was of the opinion why do I need to take it surely I should get a bye given the masters in the subject, given that I then went one to "fail*" it first time I guess I got my answer as to why you don't just get given the 20 point 😉

Hey everyone, just trying to find people that been through a similar situation or has any advice.

I've received the response from APS for a psychology skill assessment and it was recognised only 5 years (6 years is the requirement for a positive skill assessment).

They considered only 1 year of my Master, even though it was a full-time 2-year program in Europe (like 90% of the Masters in Europe). According to APS, they only recognised 1 year because my Master required 500h of practice, and APS says the Master must require 1000h of practice in order for them to recognise the full 2 years.

I find this very unreasonable, especially because I have 2 years of experience post degree.

Please, does anyone have any advice or experience to share?

I have rarely seen a 2 year masters, I would have thought from my experience (in universities) that 90% or european masters are 12 month courses

As part of my visa application I am going to undertake an english assessment (I am from UK) my Immigration Agent has suggested the PTE Academic or IELTS General. Would anyone recommend one over the other?

    Thanks

Depends - if you are still heavily academic in your day to day life then IELTS is pretty simple.

If you are not used to writing essays every day then (ironically) PTE Academic is easier

    Hi,

I found out that Expression of interest is the first step to get state sponsorship.

It's certainly a key point, but each state has differing processes for a 190 visa. Equally not all states offer 190 for the same ANZSCO codes and not all anzsco codes are sponsored

As Nemesis said I would suggest you get a bit of professional advice here before you waste any time or money on things that aren't possible

    Just to make it clearer,

    I’m not the main applicant,

when I mentioned skills assessment, it was the extra partner points I meant.

    Thanks,

    Eddie

Still the same, if you have claimed the points but your skills haven't been assessed before the EOI is submitted it will also be refused

If you haven't claimed them yet and plan to edit the EOI to add them once the assessment comes back then all is ok.

Just wanted to let you all know that I applied for RRV and I couldn't believe my eyes when I received the RRV within 5 mins of applying online for the whole family. Thank you for the feedback.

If you have met the 730 days residence requirement the process is very quick

  7. Depends which state you want to live in. Your code is also on the 190 list for NSW.

This a perm visa also the only difference is that you have to live in NSW for 2 years (after that you can go anywhere)

So if you are planning on NSW anyway you may as well apply for a 190 there.

    Hi All,

We lodged our EOI and state sponsorship request to South Australia 6 weeks ago, does anyone who has been through this process know how long we will be waiting about? So eager to find out if we get accepted! This is for the 190 visa ! Thanks All

It depends on what anzsco code you submitted under, your English score and how many other people have submitted for the same score and the same ANZSCO code

    Thank you.

It means if I sustain my EOI or even withdraw it then no problem will occur for Partner Visa 309?

Well no one can guarantee you won't have any problems with an application for partner visa 309, but any issues should not stem from having another EOI in the process

    Hi

Coming over to Melbourne at end of May on a 482 visa. What percentage would I be taxed at for 90k?

would I be taxed as a permanent resident?

Tax residency is a different concept to immigration residency.

Based on the fact you will be in Oz for the majority of the year you would most likely be tax resident and pay the same income tax as everyone else.

A simple online  calculator suggests 21k would be taxed out of 90k - however there are other levies such as Medicaid that will also be charged

    Urgent help please

"Based on the information before the Department it appears you do not meet clause 186.234,
as you did not hold your skill assessment on the date you lodged your visa application. You
may provide comment on the above information that you do not meet clause 186.234 and
provide any other information which you may deem relevant."

If you didn't hold your skills assessment on the date you lodged your application then the application is null and void. That's the rules.

A good migration agent may be able to suggest ways found this, but most likely it is a new application

    Hi,

My husband has been offered a Carpentry job with TSS 482 Sponsorship (it’s on the medium/long term list).
He has the qualifications and 2 years work experience however this is from 2005-2009. From 2009-2018 he worked as a Police Officer in the UK.
He wants to go back in to Carpentry here hence wanting to take the Carpentry job with the TSS 482 Sponsorship.
My question is, is he eligible considering his work experience is 10 years ago?

He has worked as a Carpenter on his days off during 2009-2018, however it was cash in hand and so he doesn't have payslips to prove it. He could get references from the companies he worked for though?

    Thank you in advance!!
    Suzie

I sincerely hope he can't - working cash in hand is illegal in the UK (unless he has declared the cash - in which case you will have the tax records to prove the work)

Assuming it was the dodgy version of cash in hand then he should know better as a police officer and shows that there is a lack of character that is needed in the immigration process

Hiya, we got formal invite from immigration on 3rd May. Our agent is now sending all relevant documentation to them, we have 60 days to get it in. We haven’t done police checks or health assessment yet as my eldest is doing her GCSEs next year so we want to move after that and will only get 12 months to enter. If it takes a few months for the CO to ask for them then it could all line up nicely.

Think im going to do AHPRA when we get there. Will just need to take more funds to cover us till I get a job. Or send the hubby down the mines lol.

Good luck with your application. 😄

We are looking to do similar but A levels rather than GCSE (and for an entirely different career)

Hoping the timings all work out correct

  14. I'm confused, I've read so many things and now confused myself (will ask my own agent if I don't get a response here).

Does the 5 year travel authority on the 190 start from the date of visa grant or the date you actually enter Australia and activate the visa

I'm not sure it matter either way to our plans but I hate not being sure of something I think I should understand

  15. Are you going on a one way plane ticket or have you got a return flight booked?

Obviously if you are relocating for good then you need local private health insurance but if you are going for an activation visit (for a few weeks or months) then that is a holiday as you are still UK resident

Thanks for the replies. That's much more helpful.

Are all MARA legit or should I be wary? Any recommendations?

I'm hoping I can go down the 189 visa path. I'm happy I can easily achieve 70+ points but that's not my question.

It's beginning to make much more sense now!

There are good and bad in every profession is all I can say to your question about MARA.

The ones who post regularly on this site seem to have a good reputation though.

What is important is that they are MARA registered, anyone else is just a "lay person" just like you when it comes to migration

    Good luck

    Hello.

So my fiancé and I want to move to Oz permanently. I'm a qualified motor mechanic so know I can get us both there under a skilled visa application.

I've spent the day going round and round on the Skills Select website and searching Google etc.

Regards the EOI.... It sounds like I need skills assessment for my UK qualifications, Assessment for my level of English language, assessment for my health and a criminal record check. What do I need to do first? Start filling out the EOI or start getting these assessments in order, or complete these assessments as I fill out the EOI?

Any guidance or advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Andy

I would give a registered MARA agent a call first to get an initial consultation, they will look at your situation and tell you if you have a chance at migrating.

Some do this free, some charge and some charge but refund if you use them later. Honestly for a few minutes and a few pounds their expertise will save you hours or days of contradictory Google searches.

In terms of what you do next you will need to get your skills assessed (this is at least a £1000+ for a hands on trade like yours so worth having your eligibility checked by an agent before you blow this sort of money and find out you can't go anyway)

Next step is getting English language proficiency proven, proficient (10 PTS) is relatively simple where as even as a native English speaker you shouldn't take getting superior English (20 PTS) as a given - it's doable but you will need to take it seriously - these tests again are the best part of £200 to take

Been lurking here the last few months as I was making my way through the 189 process. Finally applied last week and now lining up the police checks and medicals. Its been no easy feat so far. Looking forward to a grant since theyre sayin 6 month processing time now.

Anyway I’ve been sizing up the job situ in Brisbane as thats where my wife wants to go. I’m keen on there too because my background is in oil and gas engineering and apparently brisbane has a lot of that. However after doing quite a bit of research it seems like times are not great in the job market. Not a lot of energy jobs.

Does anyone have any insight into this? Any advice on how to get my foot in the door? Ive 7yrs exp in gas pipelines in canada. Cheers all and looking forward to contributing more here.

There are many more energy jobs in Perth and the North Territories - Brisbane has had its glory days in the energy markets already. All the majors are now over in the west

I think its worth adding that in order to get a student loan she will need to be a citizen,

Yep that's true also, you need to be able to pay as you go for tuition and living costs as you can't get a government loan until you are a citizen.

So whilst as a PR you are entitled to the same fees as a citizen you have to pay for it with real cash rather than deferring the cost with student loans.

There are probably commercial loans you can get for it, but they will be more expensive.

  20. 1 hour ago, JetBlast said:

    The above is correct.

However by the time your child is ready for university you will be eligible for an 887 so once you have this you can pay domestic fees. It will be tight so might need a gap year.

Yes but it will need to be a "domestic" gap year either working in Oz or touring round it as a gap year involving backpacking round Asia (or Europe) will mean the uni age kid won't have met the two years residence requirement

(Or is it only the main applicant this applies to? I know that's the case for the work obligation part of the 489)

Many students obtain a place in uni after year 12 then defer it for a year.  They either travel or work to get experience or cash during that time. I wouldn’t let it put you off. A bit of extra maturity isn’t a bad thing for uni especially for medicine.

I don't think it's the age that is worrying the original poster, I think it's the cost of fees as an overseas student

True but you would assume the OP would have stated my boyfriend has PR/Citizenship so he’s ok but how can it work for me.  The fact she put “I don't think he would have a problem because ......” would suggest he does not have PR, she just thinks as he works in IT and has family he’s likely to be ok.

I agree - but i didn't want to rule it out

Hi, ive had a look around for the information I need but cant seem to find anything.

We have 5 children coming with us, 4 will be going into the normal school system and I know on a 489 visa we wont have to pay anything other than what everyone else pays. My concern is for my 15/16 year old. She will be doing her GCSE's before we move so in this country would go onto A levels or NVQ's. Im thinking over in NSW it will be year 12, does this also come under the normal education? And what happens if we still have the 489 visa when she gets to university, will she be classed as an international student and have to pay thousands?

She wants to go to medical school so its going to cost wherever she goes, but id rather not have to take out lots of loans for her to do this.

    Thanks in advance.

We looked into the Uni angle (and it's the reason we held out for the 190 route instead of pulling the pin on a 489 months ago).

The advice we were given is that only citizens and PR are treated as home students - all others are overseas students.

Interesting though by going to Australia for the A level years your child will also be classed as overseas at a UK university also
