If you have moved to a state that isn't your sponsoring state, that can be a very serious issue. The states are now clamping down on this and people are having visas cancelled.

We are planning on settling in QLD and the company that has hired my husband is aware of this. They have offices in QLD and are willing to move him up there once the PR is granted.

We have a migration agent so they will tell us when CO makes contact. We are ready to do HC and PC when needed. We sent form 80 for both of us with visa application.

    Its a long waiting process.

We are planning on uploading everything all at once. We have done our PCs but haven't done HCs yet because we might be applying for a TSS visa as well as a PR. We will know what to do by end of this week.

Hi hope you are well. My 190 visa application for Victoria was submitted on 4/9/18 with form 80, and we have heard nothing as yet it’s been about 9 weeks. Only thing we didn’t submit was HC and PC.

how are you getting on now.?

Some people have advised to submit your documents ASAP. I am assuming that it would make it easier for the CO when your file is worked on. At least they won't have to ask for the documents then wait for submission then wait again to process them. Have you prepared the documents?

  4. Are you using an MA or you're doing it yourself?

I went on to their website BSMQ and found a CO there. She helped me locate where the EOI process was. She indicated that when submitting an EOI choose QLD instead of ANY and if you did that rather delete it and create another one. This is because when a person updates their EOI they can't pick up the changes unless they resubmit. I did so the same day then a few hours later emailed her details of the new EOI and that is why we got an email for nomination in less than 24hours. I would suggest you contact someone that side like we did. It helped a lot. There is a migration email you get on their webpage and then you get assigned a CO who communicates with you and guides you through the process.

  5. We applied for the 190 VISA with my husband as the primary applicant but also claiming points for my skills. We applied for Queensland on Wednesday (24/10/18) got an email from Queensland migration to send some documents for nomination the next morning (25/10/18). We have gathered them and will send them on Monday. Hoping to get a nomination message from the DHA soon. What's yours?

  6. Hi

Have you had your qualifications assessed by the AASW?

Have you been granted a visa that permits you to live and work in QLD?

I am also a social worker but don't have working and living rights yet. Still working on that. Job sites I use a lot is Seek.com and Indeed. You can narrow the search down to where you will be living or to QLD as a whole.

  7. Hi everyone

Does anyone know of a visa option similar to the work holiday visa. My Problem is that I cannot apply for the this visa as a South African. It is not listed as one of the countries eligible for the visa. What I want is something that will permit me to work AUS in for a short period of time (not a sponsored visa such as TSS). I have gone through all possible visa options and cannot find something suitable. Please help.

    TIA

I like Bendigo, although I do think you will feel totally isolated. Do you have to go regional due to visas? If not you have some lovely rural areas which are within an hour of Melbourne CBD.

Also living rural think of things like health. It’s ok if you are all A1 but with us we moved to Cairns and although they had two hospitals there weren’t the specialists capable of complex cases like mine, I ended up having surgery in Sydney and was down there for 6 months and then we moved to Townsville after being advised the professor at the hospital there could cope with my complex case only to learn after we made the move it was too complex for him and we ended up having to move to Brisbane (well we live rural about an hour and 30 from the CBD). If you do need anything major you are likely going to have to get to Melbourne especially if the children are taken ill (god forbid) as they would be sent to the Royal.

The other thing I would have said if the children were older and that would be to consider what they will do when they leave school. Most want to head to the city especially as there is more work and a lot more choice in uni courses. However I don’t think you need to worry about this just yet.

School wise, if you can afford private (I don’t mean private like in the UK where you need to take out a second mortgage, but the church schools are excellent and although they give priority to those who follow that faith, they aren’t strict and often let you enrol even if you aren’t church people. My boys have been at Catholic or Lutheran schools and we have never spent one Sunday in church since we arrived in Australia. What I also like about the church and other non government schools is that they usually run from prep straight through to Yr 12 so your child never has to change school or friends.

‘A Great School in Bendigo is https://www.creekstreet.vic.edu.au/ they also offer pre kinder for 3 year olds at $1800 a year (usually paid per term but can be paid weekly/monthly etc) and Kindy for 4 Yr olds at $2600. Prep is approx $3,000 a year. This way both of your girls could stay at the same school from the age of 3 onwards.

Government schools I’d look at Camp Hill or Spring Gully Primary. Remember though most government schools are zoned which means you need to live in a certain area, sometimes street to be able to attend. So don’t just think my child is going to this school but I’m going to live in this area. You need to first look at schools, zones and then houses.

    This information is really helpful.

We do not have to live in a regional area due to visas, it was just a personal preference as we are not city dwellers. We prefer something relaxed and laid back.

I will most definitely take your advise on looking for schools first before looking for a home.

  9. My husband and I are thinking of relocating to Victoria. We prefer living in regional areas. So far we have been looking at areas such as Bendigo and Castlemaine.

We have 2 baby girls (5 and 1y6m). How are schools and day-cares in such areas?

I have been searching for houses to rent and I like what I am seeing so far. I am quite excited about moving.

With most of the posts that I have read here, people live in capital cities and we really do not like such areas. We prefer something laid back and peaceful.

    Thanks for the information!

We sent off the skills assessment and it arrived on 13th August (so just before the cut-off date), the initial email said that all documents appear to be correct on a preliminary check.

Anticipating a 30+ week wait but hoping to be pleasantly surprised!

That is great news. I am hoping that you get a positive response. The 30 weeks will mos def work on your patience but you will get there. Good luck and all the best.

    Just waiting now for visa!

Police checks uploaded and medicals done- submitted visa application on the 2nd July so in for a long wait yet. Although I think we are used to patiently waiting after the AASW processing time!

We have applied to NSW (Northern Inland) for a 489 visa.

How is all of your things going? Have you made a start now?

My problem is the fact that I do not have work experience. Things are quite hectic in South Africa. Graduated in 2016 (Bachelor of SW with honours) and have been applying ever since without any luck. That is part of the reason why we decided to relocate.

We lodged our EOI with my husband as the primary applicant. He is a vet and has 10 years work experience. We also applied to NSW for VISA 190 AND 489. We lodged on the 19th of Aug. We were waiting for my assessment so that he could claim points. So I got a response on the 13th of Aug, wrote an English test a few days later then got results the following day.

How long did it take before you were nominated/sponsored?
