    Applied Citizenship  10.11.2019

    Invitation                    30.01.2020

Usually you will see in your immi account status. It will be received to approved and also immigration minister will send out a letter stating your citizenship has been approved. BTW which city council you are in?

    Hi everyone

I am a secondary applicant of 489 visa and we are on bridging visa to 489 , but me and my husband has decided to get divorce soon after getting 489(regional) visa. My question is will my visa be cancelled as I am a secondary applicant? or can I also stay in regional areas and fulfill all the criteria and apply for PR after 2 years? Does affect my 489 visa ?

    Thank you

    Neha

surely it will be cancelled. secondary applicant is based on primary applicant as it is also a temporary visa which needs to meet visa satisfaction. Let us know the visa outcome.

I moved here at age 17 as a dependant of a skilled worker on the skilled work PR visa and became eligible to apply for citizenship in April last year. I am about to send off my online application but have noticed lengthy application processing times so just have a few questions.
I have been told that since my visa is 5 years it has to be “renewed” every 5 years if I leave the country unless I become a citizen. I was hoping to go on holiday in July, if my citizenship is not complete by then (and it doesn’t look like it will be) but it is under application, will I still have to pay the renewal fee/re entry fee for my PR visa? Probably a silly question! Also has anyone had the entire process complete in 3-4 months after lodging?
    thanks!

You need a residence return visa if your current visa expires before you return to australia. it is not a big deal though.

I lived legally in Australia since 2016, however out of 4 years I first entered on visitor visa , Will that period is countable on my citizenship application?
I am PR holder since 2018

if you live in australia on temporary visa (regardless what temporary visa you were on) for 4 years and 12 months after you become permanent resident. you are eligible to apply citizenship.

Just a crazy question - can citizenship be delayed or denied for reasons of claiming any kind of allowances like Newstart allowance/Paid parental leave etc. based on the reason that you're a burden to the Government funds? Say if someone is unemployed and claming new start allowance etc.?

Also, can citizenship be delayed or denied for reasons such a protesting against the government for promotion of vaccines in a polite manner?

It is indeed such a crazy question. Under no any circumstances your citizenship can be delayed or refused just because you applied for new start allowance or to access government benefits. In Australia government agency works independently. Each an every government agency practice on based on information which are available in relations to policy they have to comply with.

Once you commence application, you continue to fill the form online. You don’t need to search what documents to be required. It is an online application form, immigration will ask you what you need to put in. At the end of application you need to attach scan copy of your legal documents.

@Micgeo Firstly, congrats on the silver email.

Secondly, the IELTS would be apart of the visa application, meaning they will pick that up when going through the visa documents, not the nomination.

If you know the IELTS is missing, why not upload it / get it complete beforehand? This would avoid the request for more information and delaying the application unnecessarily?

Hex, he might be looking for paying the money instead of submitting the English language score as it is for his spouse application. If this is the case he is definitely waiting for the link where he can pay it off.

Not sure though he might be looking for submitting the original ielts score once he has been told.

Update from me and some information others might find helpful.

Had my citizenship ceremony yesterday. 3.30pm I became Australian 😁

    I’d previously posted 2 questions.
    1. I’d lost my invitation letters (!) - I can confirm that these are NOT needed. I phoned to check but also took the email I’d received. When we got there, I had the email in my hand but I just gave them my name and driving licence and they gave me the paperwork to go in. They didn’t ask at all about the letter. They only need to confirm your ID on your driving licence. (Note: my 15 year old daughter came and technically she didn’t need to provide ID however because she looks a lot older than she is, they asked her for it. I’d already made sure she had her student ID on her. They wanted to check to see if she was over 16 so they would give her a voting form to fill out)

    2. I’d also posted that I need to travel urgently for business next week and wanted my passport quickly. Immigration said I had to wait 10 days before applying. - WRONG. I filled out the application online last week. Got everything ready but it wouldn’t let me complete the application until I had my citizenship certificate number. I filled that in last night, it couldn’t verify it (understandably because it’d only been about 20 minutes since I’d got it!) but it did ask me to verify it was correct and then complete the application.

Printed the checklist out, took it to the post office this morning at 10am with all original documents asked for and paid for the fastest service ($298 for passport + $214 for express). Got an email at 4.30pm to say it was ready for collection!!!

    How good is that!

24 hours after my ceremony and I have my Australian passport in my hand 😁😁

    Great mate ! Congratulations !

Thanks for sharing your experience with us. Much appreciated it. Good luck and be proud as an Australian. Happy for you.

BTW which council and state was it?

    Hi everyone

I am applying for Australian citizenship.Do my spouse and 16months old baby need to apply separately or we can apply together.

    Please let me know

Yes your spouse needs to apply separately and if you are primary applicant you can include your baby in your application. You can use same immi account applying two different application. i had same situation when i applied citizenship and all went good and approved with no drama.

  14. Help !

Friends , how can I update the immi about changing the name of my son on birth certificate once citizenship certificate is issued with old name? He was born in Australia and I applied my son’s change of name on birth certificate before receiving his citizenship certificate which is due on 4 March. So I assume we may receive Son’s new (name change) birth certificate just before or around the same time. Can my son get a new citizenship certificate after getting one with old name? What is the process?

    please advise.

    Hey guys

Possibly a "noob" question here but I'll rather be safe than sorry.

I have previously mentioned that I got my son a new updated passport (even though his current one is still valid) as it's expiring at the end of the year and getting a passport from S.A is a mission (to say the least).

Now, I want to update the passport details but wanted to confirm that this is done on the immi page, under the finalized PR application right?
    - I'm assuming then, that would mean in time the PR would be attached to both his old and new passport?

Just wanting to make sure I update the right stuff here and being "finalized", wanted to make sure my thinking was correct?

You can do it in immi account on your citizenship application

    view details—>Update details—>Change the passport details—>Done

once you upload they will notify you that it was received and updated.

    Does anyone know the following:

We plan to apply for citizenship with a teenager (14yo) whos overseas passport is going to be expired a month prior to the application is going to be lodged.

Is a valid passport a requirement? We cannot currently replace the existing overseas passport as there is no Embassy nearby.

It is required to valid passport at the time of application of citizenship. You have no choice but have to get it renewed as soon as possible.

@KazBaker Hey mate!! Haha glad to see you here!!!!!! Can't wait to start checking for every update on immi...NOT LOL.

    HAVE A GREAT DAY EVERYONE!🍀

Nora, my advice to apply your citizenship smoothly is to make sure you have all the documents ready and scanned beforehand. Another important part is to get your identification documents ready beforehand as well. As it took me 5 days delay due to not having done it on time. You can print them out and take it to your regular GP doctor and get it signed in. I believe you already know it. recommending you Just in case if you don’t know yet. Cheers !

Hi All, Hope everyone is well. I opened my MOET yesterday. Yes Finally  got PR grant yesterday on 07/01/2020. 🍾🍾🎉🎊  After a long struggle, many battles, monetary loss, many visas & IELTS, medicals, 2 refusals. Lot of let downs, hardships, manipulations, exploitations towards us, gave blood and sweat, yet I did not give up for myself and my family. And got our golden email Yesterday.

Remember from last year "Bella" used to talk about spreading the blessings dust and attracting luck. So my MOET was sitting since last year after the DE refusal. I was sure I will get a grant at last.

Been here in this country for 12 years. And last three months were the hardest.

Our file opened on: 30th Sept 2019 ( request for medicals and Police Checks)

    Further Assessment - 09th Dec 2019

I got very frustrated and wrote an email to Department on Monday the 6th & got granted the next day (sometimes little push works)

My Migration Agent was useless and got me in troubles many times. Could not fire them due to pressures from my employer.

After my last DE refusal my MA forced me to remove my 23 yo son from my visa for the TRT visa without doing much research. MA believed 23 yo adult child might effect our visa refusal for rest of us (who was included by the way in my 457 & been in this country for 11 years)

I went along but was devastated. Coz where would he go. So I did my own research, met several MAs and Migration blood thirsty lawyers( for money) But did not give up. Got no help.

Then I contacted Immigration directly. And they helped me, told me the laws and regulations that my dependant can be included in my visa. Then I included my son in my Visa, myself directly, while getting into  hurdles with MA and employer.

Well that's all in the past. Trust in God Only !!

I don't think I still know it all, but all I can say, friends, never loose hope. Hold on tight to your dreams. Fight till you drop. Get up again and fight till you get what You want... Do what your heart tells and you believe!! Do your own research, don't depend on anyone. Don't trust/leave everything entirely on your MA.

It has been a great learning journey. I got lot of support from my All mighty God and people HE sent in my life.  Many people helped me in this forum.  Even when I needed advice about including  my son. Thanks to all of them. And everyone of you.

    This freedom is beautiful...

    See you all around.

Many Regards and all the best to all.

    Your's Bipasha  🎉🎉

Congratulations ! Bipasha. It was long crazy ocean journey indeed. Eventually You have landed safely and now all your’s. Enjoy the taste of achievement. You have a very good luck and your family.

    Lesson hard work pays off.
