The other thing I've been working on is getting my house ready to sell, the market is terrible. So many layoffs in the oil and gas sector over the past few years and it continues! Worst thing is I have to update the kitchen as it's a competitive market (lots of listings), house prices continue to fall.  Just had my hardwood floor refinished last week so moving in the right direction. Painter comes in February to freshen the place up.  Then I contacted a pet mover and got a quote (I've used them before), but I won't start that until the visa is in hand (hopefully before June). So many things to do, but I wish that visa would hurry along and then I can really get on with things.

Hope everyone else's plans are coming a long!

I decided to put our house on the market last week as I felt it would reduce the lag time from visa grant to emigrating. I expected it to take at least a few months to sell, possibly 6-9, but I got an offer I couldn't refuse within 2 days!!! I've been told it will take around 12 weeks for the council searches so I'm hoping the grant will come through before we have to move out so we can head straight to Oz. If it doesn't come through before, I will most likely rent somewhere for 6 months or do a short term AirB&B.

It's a gamble as we may not even get the visa, but I'm comfortable with that as we will just look to purchase another house in the UK.

Our 489s have been granted today!!! Still feels a bit unreal.Lodged on 13/11/2018. To those waiting, hang in there, it wont be long!!!!

    Congrats!!!

    Did you front load everything?

We submitted 31st October, but have had two CO contacts since, one in December and another in January. I'm hoping we get the grant this month, the suspense is killing me!!!

All,  received the grant. Planning to move in April 19. Any view about network engineer jobs. I search on some sites and found that recruiter specially ask " Those who have PR must apply".

Please share your thoughts. Looks like they prefer candidates with permanent residency visa.

    Congratulations.

When did you submit your visa application?

    Hi all,

We got our visas granted yesterday. Applied 30/10 granted 14/01 so quick timescale which hopefully is encouraging for others who are waiting.

    Full steam ahead now!

    Congratulations @Jimbo

We applied around the same time and had second contact with CO today asking my wife to fill in form 815 (health declaration).

Hoping we don’t get another delay as a result of this because I have a feeling we would have received the grant today.

  5. Slightly off topic, but for those of us who are hoping to get 489’s in the next few weeks/months, how worried are you that the door to permanent residence (887) will be closed when our time comes?

It’s not something I’ve considered up until now. However, someone replied to another post the other day and it got me thinking. They suggested those of us on 489’s should plan accordingly meaning the rug could be pulled from under our feet.

    How likely is this scenario?

I thought that but the 489 isn't a temporary visa, it is a provisional (as described on the immigration website). Anyway I don't want to hijack the thread 🙂

On my form 80, I originally ticked “no” to “Are you applying for a temporary visa?” as I thought the 489 provisional does lead onto 887 permanent, plus my intention is to stay in Australia permanently.

My migration agent corrected me and changed it to “yes” as a 489 is considered temporary in this regard.

B4 would be my selection also.

@jonno1981 Great news about your medical. I bet thats a relief for you all.
    @jonandsophietravel I knew you'd catch us up emoji16.png

So looks like the majority of us in here are front loaded and awaiting good news now. fingers crossed everyone that we are the lucky ones that hear back in 2-3months emoji846.png

Thanks @Jellica. Finally excitement is starting to take over from fear of failure, although still not out of the woods until that visa is in our hands.

Wow, I thought 7 weeks was good but they're now down to 5. There must have been almost no applications received after ours for them to jump 2 weeks straight away.

Hope everything goes smoothly for you Jonno. Fingers crossed for your wife's tests not to cause any issues!

Great news for us this morning.

Wife’s medical has been cleared after it was initially referred to the departments migration medical services provider for review.

This means processing of our visas can now continue as normal.

Just waiting on a decision now as all documents are attached to the application.

Hoping for the best Christmas present ever!!!

CO assigned today. Request for outstanding health and police checks.

It appears they are motoring through applications.

    Outstanding police checks submitted.

Medicals for my son and I were done last Thursday 29th November. All fine as far as I am aware.

My wife’s medical is more complicated. She has a heart condition, history of extra pulmonary TB (lymph node) from 10 years ago, and mild scoliosis.

We got a specialist medical report from a UK based Consultant Cardiologist, which confirms her heart condition is not serious and probably won’t require medical intervention.

We decided to also get specialist medical reports to show she no longer has TB and her scoliosis is minor (16 degrees, no further curvature expected).

My wife did her medical examination today in Philippines (as we are currently on holiday). We submitted the reports for the heart and TB, but we’re advised by our agent not to hand over the one for scoliosis as her condition is mild, requiring no treatment, and does not affect her life in anyway.

To add further complication however, the medical examiner picked up that my wife had a swollen lymph node in her neck. They haven’t advised a course of action, just stated the Australian Government will review the details and advise if any further information is required. As a preemptive strike, we’re going to the hospital tomorrow to get her lymph node checked out and a biopsy done if necessary.

In a nutshell, all outstanding documents should soon be with the Australian Government. However, I’m fully expecting delays due to my wife’s medical history.

At no point in this whole process has it been easy!!!

    Question for everyone:

I know it's impossible to know for sure, but how long are you expecting everything to take from the date of your visa grant to the date you step foot in Adelaide?

    We're hoping for 3-4 months.

Need to sell the flat but we have a really great city center location, secure parking space and it was only on the market for a couple of days before we snapped it up when we bought it so hoping for a similar situation. Everything else like shipping, booking flights etc can easily be done in 3 months. We definitely want to be out by Oct / Nov time though, if possible.

As soon as possible for us, but it all depends on how long it takes to sell our house.

    Hi JetBlast.

    Thanks for your response.

Yes. I meant that is there any specific area where a person on a 489 Visa can live and work lawfully ?

Can one choose to stay in Adelaide ?

Yes you can live in Adelaide on a 489 visa as the city is classed as regional.

I am at a funny point in my life. I am not enjoying my job like I used to and ready for the change. Seems to make this drag on that bit longer.

    I can relate.

I’ve wanted to live in Oz since first visiting in 2005. Pushed the dream aside for many years because of loyalty to family, but there hasn’t been a day gone by that I haven’t thought about emigrating.

When our son was born in 2016 my perspective changed and slowly I came to the realisation that Australia was where we should be.

In May 2017, I started the process and have struggled to motivate myself for anything that wasn’t to do with Oz since.

Like you, I’m ready for a change and looking forward to the challenge of starting from scratch.

Do they prioritise visa grants with higher points? I thought this only applied to invites?

I'm not sure really. Unless it's occupation. I haven't been assigned a CO yet and I applied before. There must be some reason.

CO assigned today. Request for outstanding health and police checks.

It appears they are motoring through applications.
