Hi! We are going to be moving to Australia in the New Year, we have a 4 year old and a 1 year old so we will need childcare for them while we're at work. I'm just wondering what kind of cost we are looking at for two kids in childcare? At the moment we pay £39 a day for each child at a private day nursery. Is it a similar amount in Australia? We're hoping so, I think a 'test the waters' approach is a good one if you can do that. Thanks so much for your input. It's all really appreciated and most I've ever read on teaching so really helpful. We've decided to test the waters for a year when we go out, Im taking a sabbatical and my wife doesn't have a contract at the moment as she's growing kids [emoji23] (she's primary though and what you've described above is pretty much exactly what she's going through here at the moment). Got to be honest though, the way education is going here, I don't think this will put many teachers off giving oz a try at least. Certainly not saying I don't believe you, just saying how difficult it is to find out as I'm not over there yet. There's a lot of talk about teachers desperately needed in the uk and I think a lot of teaching graduates would also disagree with that Sent from my iPhone using PomsinOz

I've read a real mix of information about the prospect of jobs for teachers out in oz. I'm a secondary teacher and my wife is primary, we have heard things like, there are no jobs for teachers out there, yet my wife was on interview in Wales a few weeks ago and spoke to someone who has just returned form two years in Brisbane and walked straight into supply teaching and worked the whole time she was there (they returned to the U.K. as primary teachers aren't on the 189 visa list). Any ideas how long it has taken in the past to be assigned a co? We haven't had medicals or police checks done yet because of the wait on visas so won't be a straight grant for us. Just wondering how long it might take to hear from someone. Thanks Sent from my iPhone using PomsinOz

I think ours took 10 weeks to get the certificate back but it's usually between 10-12 weeks. We got an email first saying the decision was being posted out to us. They didn't tell us we had passed the assessment in the email, just that it was being sent! Sent from my iPhone using PomsinOz

The next one will be 12th August. I'm not sure about automatic invites, but I know they have a cap on how many invites they send out each time and you're in a pool so against those with higher points than you. Fingers crossed for the 12th for you ? Sent from my iPhone using PomsinOz

Took me a while to work out how, but you can log in direct to the immi website! I use my email address and a password (different to my skillselect log in) I had to save the web address of the immi web page once I'd got there via skillselect though as I could never find it! Sure you will hear soon! There are only two a month so depending on when you submitted maybe you missed it for July? We got an invite the round following submitting the EOI (back in May). Thanks for the info. I remember reading they only lasted a year but didn't realise that meant you needed to activate the visa by then, just thought it meant the visa had to be processed by them by that date so that's good to know. Sent from my iPhone using PomsinOz

My husband is stressing that we're going to get charged loads because we are paying by credit card and it's charged in a foreign currency. I know there is a charge with our card but it's a normal thing to pay by credit card isn't it? We're not totally crazy for using a credit card are we??! [emoji38] Sent from my iPhone using PomsinOz

For the skills assessment just get your headteacher at the school you're at to do it. We did it all ourselves and it was fine having the head certify them. Sent from my iPhone using PomsinOz
