  1. Hi All, Quick question, my British parents-in-law are currently completing their 864 application and they do not know their previous visa numbers (have visited aus four times), they know their dates of travel (as it is stamped in their passport) and that they traveled on ETA's, is this sufficient or do we need contact immigration to request the specific visa numbers? Thank you in advance.
  2. Hi All, Seems the bridging visa scenario is not clear cut at all and there is conflicting advise floating around!! In terms of processing times I have cut and paste what is included in the email from parents@border.gov.au. ONSHORE APPLICANTS (subclass 864 and 884) When your application is allocated to a case officer, which may take up to 9 months, you or your authorised contact will be asked to provide more documents including but not limited to Assurance of Support (subclass 864 only), police certificates and health clearances to finalise your application. We are currently assessing applications lodged up to 30 June 2015 Hope its useful.
  3. Hi Janet, I am currently helping prepare my parents in law application for an onshore contributory aged parent visa, so by no means an expert but they are in the same boat. Your father (assuming he meets the other requirements of the visa BoF etc) should be able to submit his onshore application whilst he is here next month, as long as his current visa allows him to submit further applications and he doesnt have a no further stay condition applied to his visa . It seems strange that this is allowed I agree but if you think about there is no other way anyone would realistically ever be able to apply for this visa. If he applies offshore he is as far as I am aware able to apply for other visas to visit but I havent looked in to this in detail but I know many people visit whilst waiting for their applications. Hopefully some other forum members can comment on this. In terms of the bridging visa this comes into place when his current visa expires, so three months after landing in Oz or 12 months after grant (allowing for multiple 3 month visits). As far as I understand it he can come and go on his visitor visa (whilst it is still valid) once his onshore application is submitted. I would just make sure that he is in Oz when the visitor visa expires, so 12 months after grant (assuming it hasnt already expired due to a visit of more than 3 months), allowing him to transition onto a bridging visa. The other thing I think you would need to be mindful of is that he needs to be in Oz when the visa is granted which according to IMMI are currently taking about 6 months to process. This is just my understanding and hopefully some other forum members comment or as suggested above you contact an agent. Good luck!
  4. Hi, Just seeking some clarity on bridging visas. We are planning to sponsor my husbands parents via an onshore contributory aged parent visa (864), my husband is an Aus PR who has lived here for over two years, they are both over 65, he is their only child - so I believe they are eligible (once they are in Aus). They have an ETA 601 which expires in Dec 2016, they are currently in the UK but are travelling to Aus in April, once here they can stay in Aus for three months on the ETA 601. I understand once we apply for the 864 and their current visa expires (three months after arriving in Aus so say Jul 2016) a bridging visa A automatically comes into place. I am wondering whether given the ETA 601 is still valid whether they can leave Aus before the three months is up and then return to Aus before the 864 is granted without transferring onto the bridging visa (and obviously without impacting the 864 application). The current processing time for this visa is 9 months (according to the test to parents@border.gov.au) - if anyone has any other information on processing times I would be very interested to hear. This would avoid needing to apply for a bridging visa B to allow them to travel back to the UK while the 864 is underway. They will still have their UK property which they only have insurance that allows them to be out of the country for 6 months and their travel insurance only provides coverage for 6 months also. I am aware that technically that when arriving on an ETA they shouldnt intend to stay (I have a funny feeling they might have a change of heart and decide that they want to stay in aus once here!) Hope the above makes sense. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
  5. Thanks Steve, great help! Longer than I was hoping but isn't that always the way!! Thanks again!
