  1. Yes we have already looked into the 143 and passed the balance of family test but then the opportunity for a 457 job offer came up so we thought that would get us out there quicker and we can hopefully apply for permanency through the the parent visa while we are there.
  2. Thanks for the quick reply, do you know what the processing times are from Australia and will we still need all the usual UK health and police checks etc. Obviously we would need to get these done from the UK while we are still here.
  3. My partner is waiting for his 457 visa to come through and we have a son and grandchildren in Australia. Once we are living and working in Australia can we apply from Oz for a permanent Contributary Parent visa and would the costs and processing time be the same?
  4. We will be settling in the Melbourne suburbs as my son, his wife and our new twin grandchildren are there. Although we are planning to go out on a 457 visa our plan after 18 months is to apply for permanent contributory parent visa before his 4 year work visa expires. I hope it will be easier for me to get a job than you suspect as its really important to be working and can't imagine coping financially without us ninth working. Thanks for the heads up anyway .
  5. Thank you for that, I am new to this forum but finding it very helpful so far. How do I contact a moderator ?
  6. Myself and partner are hoping to move out on a work sponsored 457 visa later this year. He is expecting to be offered a salary of around 80k per year but not sure what deductions or allowances we will need to take into consideration for his take home pay. I know he will pay tax and super is on top of his salary but what about Medicare etc. He is coming up to 50 so is it age related. Also I am 56 and wonder if anyone has experienced any problems getting a job at my age. I have worked as a office/finance manager in a kitchen manufacture / retail company for 23 years and would like to stay in an office admin type role. Any ideas of salary expectations for me? Any help,or advice would be very much appreciated. Thank you
  7. Just down the road in Witham would you believe it! my other half s waiting for sponsored 457 lots of interest from BMW dealership but because we can't be ready to move because of our cats until October they can't commit yet but his time is running out as he's 50 this year. If that doesn't pan out then the CPV route as my son lives in Melbourne and can sponser us. Are you going out for work or family or retirement?
  8. Hey Steve we are off the Melbourne later this year all being well. I,m an Essex girl too where abouts are you in Essex?
  9. When are you leaving the UK? Hope your hubby will get something pretty quick it's a big step to take. Good luck.
  10. Hi Snifter, was that your UK drivers licence? and how quick can you get Medicare card. Do we need it as we are UK passport holders and on reciprocal health care?? We have bank cards as opened our CBA account in December .If we are on a 457 visa do we need Aussie driving licence straight away? Sorry for all the questions
  11. Have googled it and it appears that the uk passport, 457 visa and bank account should do it. Thanks for the heads up.
  12. Thanks for the info I will google it,
  13. Thanks Verystormy but maybe I am hoping for too much trying to secure accommodation before we arrive. I am a bit obsessive about getting everything in place before we leave, just for peace of mind. Still wonder if coming over on a 457 visa still means we need the 100 points which I must admit I know nothing about.
  14. Me and hubby are arriving in Melbourne hopefully September/October dependant on 457 visa and job offer with a view to permanent residency We have just ve one grandparents to twins so exciting times ahead for us. The thought of relocating is massive for us but we are do excited at the prospect of starting a new life, new jobs and a new home with our brand new grandchildren.
  15. We are coming over once hubby has secured his sponsored job offer, looking around end of September/ October. We are bringing our two house cats with us and we're hoping to secure a rental for when we arrive by paying 6 months rent in advance. My son lives in Melbourne and is happy to go and do the viewings on our behalf. We already have an Aussie bank account, will that help?
  16. We are 49 and 56 and are waiting for my partners job offer (sponsorship) to come through then we will be coming to Melbourne around October this year, all bring well, on the 457 visa. I have a son his wife and 2 twin babies living in Melbourne and the plan is once we are settled 18 months to 2 years we will apply for our permanent parent visa. Has anyone done this and do you still have to go through all the usual channels? We will both be working . Any advice please..
  17. Thanks again for the info Val. The PR only applies if you on the SKills list and under 50 ( he only has another 7months) and he on the consolidated skills list which means he has to have job skills assessments etc which given the time frame we have will be nearly impossible. Unfortunately a year earlier it might have been a more realistic option. I agree the costs are horrendous but I,m sure will be worth it. We have been visiting Melbourne for the last eight years and love it there and am also aware of the cost of living compared to the UK which despite a lot of horror stories on here I think are all relative to earnings. We will be in about the same financial position in Oz as we are here and both have a few more years of working ahead and looking forward to the challenge. Hope you manage to overcome all your problems with your visa.
  18. Hey Val, thanks so much for the quick reply. There is a reason why we are going this route as we have to sell our house to release the equity to pay the CPV. The agency we are using are specialists in the motor trade and based in Sydney and they are confident they will find a job sponser in Melbourne. There are a lot of openings for his trade in Melbourne so that's why we are hopeful this route will enable us to get there and then we can sort out our CPV once we are settled. Our plan is to rent for a year and then buy. We were thinking towards the end of the 2nd year to put in the application for permanent residency by which time we should be more settled. Can you tell me why it would be cheaper to do it from this end? Thanks
  19. We are hoping to be moving to Melbourne later this year. My partner is waiting for job sponser for his 457 visa and has had his job interview by Skype. He is coming up to 50 this September so running out of time. The 457 is for 4 years during which time we want to apply for our CPV. My son lives in Melbourne with his wife and my new twin grandchildren so I am desperate to be around for them growing up. My question is can we apply for CPV while on a 457 and can this be due from Australia and does it cost the same?
