    Update

At least you moved back to a place where OZ experience is held in high esteem... Wish I could say the same about the North East of England...
  2. Hi Angela, I am a OZ citizen in the UK at the moment, thinking of heading back W.A, without a job lined up.
  3. Tell you what Rocky this forum is dead.... you are the only one really I am seeing who is heading back... I am still thinking of it, though. Sometime in life I take chances and this could be one of those times....
  4. One of the best places to live close to Perth if you can get a job at Alcoa who pay decent wages... But that is easier said than done!
  5. Tell him to go and complete a one week TAE (Training and Assessing Qualification) look up HBA Learning or Sand Goanna Training (on internet) for the best price and then try and get a job with ST John's Ambulance, delivering Senior First Aid or other similar courses. Money he would be looking at 60 - 85k I would say plus super. But with all roles theres a lot of competition so don't just apply, ring up and speak to the recruiter. He could chase up Silver Chain as well for aged care work. At least with care jobs there recession proof. Just be prepared to do some training or he could ask training companies about RPL (Recognised prior learning) basically they compare UK quals vs OZ and they knock a few units of a course he might study so he doesn't have to complete everything. Going to OZ with a plan of doing something different is not a great idea as he will have zero experience and you don't want to make it harder on yourselves. Try and get a job in the same area and then branch out into a different role in the organization once you have your feet under the table. I.E. HR or recruiting or BDM
  6. The North East is lagging behind the rest of the UK with regards to house prices.. A lot of job losses in Sunderland don't help. Anyway hopefully by the time you sell the pound has picked up against the dollar.
  7. Job market in the UK is very misleading. The zero hour contract is very common in the UK, plus half of the UK needs - government tax credits to supplement their income because it is so low. Also its in a lot of peoples interest who have families to work 24 hours a week only and obtain tax credits. The UK is a mess, great if your professional and in London. Its not helping sterlings rate the upcoming EU referendum. Until that is over I can see the power losing value.
  8. What kind of work were you looking for while you were in Perth? What kind of work did you end up doing?
  9. I am doing a week long study on the employment market in WA. I am looking at low end jobs advertised and will not double up with multiple recruitment agencies advertising the job. Will see how it goes. Regarding life in the UK, jobs might be plentiful in London and surrounding areas, Manchester in the north, but on the whole the job market is terrible. Lots of zero hour job contracts but what good are they to anyone. Just noticed Captain Cook cruises advertised a waiting on job this morning, 5 years experience they are looking for, 5 years experience to take an order and carry it to a table. I am sorry but that is a joke.... There really are some idiots in WA that make life hard for the people there.
  10. Its was 33 pages for WA. I base my search on WA because I would be happy working in most places in the state.
  11. Well I was looking at Seek today and there were 33 pages of new jobs advertised in the last twenty four hours. Many are specialised but there seems like a lot of low end jobs as well.
  12. Ok everyone, moving on from the resources industry as its not in a happy place at the moment. What is the job market like for average paid jobs in WA - Perth? Does anyone have a recruitment background and is able to give an indication of the amount of applications for 50k - 75k jobs in Perth? Are all the resources unemployed moving into low paid sectors? Once the government freeze on jobs comes to an end (July) 2016 is it going to make a difference?
  13. Great list of places to live if your a multimillionaire...
  14. Like Rocky said if your in operations your fine.
  15. That pool cleaning job was quite unique in the fact it was for an engineering maintenance company on Barrow Island which is a Class A nature reserve. Working on Barrow you made more money than any other LNG construction site due to that fact. Cleaners working working for ESS/Compass certainly would not command that pay.
  16. I dunno mate see what happens in the next two months, I wont sell my British home though. I did sell it but backed out of the deal. If I come back to OZ I will just leave it here unoccupied.
  17. Is employment easy to find in Perth? Not really because the resource/construction industry has slowed down. Are there many jobs available in marketing?I don't think they pay very well Are there mass applicants for these jobs?I think there are mass applications for most jobs. You don't have WA work experience on your CV so it will be tough. It was tough in the boom years if you didn't have WA experience even for Aussies from other states. Are job application/ interview processes much different from the UK? The big difference is telephone interviews to sound out your salary expectations (In WA). Other than that mostly the same, face to face interview, psychometric tests maybe MS Office tests. Whats the salary like? Should be a bit more than the UK for marketing. What are the best sites to use to look for employment in Perth? Seek/Indeed Any tips and suggestions for job hunting? Apply apply apply, a month before you go smash out as many as you can. It takes weeks for people to get back to you. Its called WA for a reason - wait awhile Your would be better of going into HR but you will need to get a Diploma HR in OZ. Cheapest training provider I think is - Sand Goanna. It would be an online E=Leanring course. Not particularly well written but you will get the cert you need. Also ask them if you can RPL (recognised prior learning) you might get a way with some of the units. Biggest thing I can advise you is don't have the attitude - I don't need Aussie quals I have a degree. You do if you want to succeed in Perth/WA. Good luck
  18. Well done mate hope it works out ok. The conditions seem pretty good.
  19. Engineers are not in demand in OZ at the moment due to the slow down in construction which looks likely to stay for a good while.
  20. If an RTO has been granted Australian approval to deliver the White card, legally it is accepted across Australia. You can check an RTO's scope of delivery here - https://training.gov.au/Search/SearchOrganisation The White card has no expiry date. Now what you have to remember is depending on the contractor or client you plan to work for, they may have their own rules to work on their site. I.E attending their approved White Card RTO training, or they may impose that there is a site requirement that the White card is valid for only two years and you need to refresh the training to work on their site. As a starting point I would get a White Card with Blue Dog, check them out on the above Government RTO link, they are one of the cheapest in OZ offering what is a very basic H&S induction course.
  21. Well I worked on Australia's largest resource project - Gorgon, where I monitored personnels white/blue cards and there was no issue if it was an online course or what state it was obtained on, employees came from all states. Gorgon is a Chevron project, they set industry standards. The White card has no expiry date on. Check guidelines on Worksafe WA or the relevant state governing body for further info. You will be fine with the one I mentioned above.
  22. I think these are the cheapest, I got mine there six years ago when I was in OZ- https://bluedogtraining.com.au
  23. You may be able to pay a company to RPL your certs, basically compare yours against Aussie ones and then issue you an Aussie cert. Chances are though you may have to do some study. None of my certs were acceptable. BTW I lived there for 5 years and moved back the UK due to the slow down. I'm an Aussie citizen know and was thinking of going back but where I would go is Perth/WA and from what people have said there are a lot of redundancies so you do need to know people in companies to secure the work..
  24. I decided I am not going to come back at the moment I don't need to walk into a **** storm and from what the news everyone on here and even my own family in WA saying the outlook is bad, best I leave it for a while..
  25. Think we can all agree Safety is now on the back foot and not a career option for most in WA.
