  1. Thanks everyone, ironically the internet prices are better than Australia even when including line rental.
  2. Hi everyone, We're set to go, have sorted our house and car and everything is ready to go. I'd like some advice on internet prices as this is the most pressing "need" according to my daughter. I've been looking for Naked DSL but everything I have found so far includes monthly line rental charges of around £15. Can anyone enlighten me? Thanks, Jonathan
  3. Hello Britgirl, I am going through the same post-grad issue, so I can relate... I already hold a Masters and am completing another, both here in Australia. I am moving to the UK in July with 8 subjects to go and my wife has 3, we have been able to continue to completion our Australian studies as Australians and without affecting our study benefits. It is straightforward to organise exam adjudication overseas. As far as the UK is concerned, there is a 3 year waiting period before (as a UK resident or citizen) you are entitled to access UK student funding or loans if you have lived overseas for more than 3 years, this includes children moving from secondary to tertiary. Hope that helps
  4. Tickets booked for July, almost sold all of belongings we're not taking inc cars...guess it's on! We've taken a bot of a diversion before landing in the UK and will be living in Poland 1st: half the living costs plus I can jump on a plane direct to Bristol for interviews for $100 aud return!
  5. In the same boat; out of work over 12 months, solid career history, good track record, MEd and MBA and get no response to job apps - no one gives feedback. Feel like I have the plague. Going back after 12 years and a bit "tired" of one dimensional Australian lifestyle (never thought I'd say that!)
  6. Just found out I can continue on with my Australian studies even though I'll be living in the UK, so that means I can complete the MBA - Huge relief...
  7. Whoops, missed that bit...
  8. Thank you for your response. I have been having a dig around and uncovered the 2016 criteria which makes no mention of a waiting period for returning Nationals: [h=2]What are the student eligibility criteria for the postgraduate loans?[/h]The new postgraduate Masters loans are subject to eligibility criteria based on age, nationality and residency. These have been substantially updated with the Autumn 2015 announcement, removing a previous age limit of 30 and a restriction to English universities. You can read more about the specific criteria below, but the main requirements are as follows: [*=left]You must be under 60 years of age when you begin your postgraduate course. This removes the previous age limit of 30 . [*=left]You must be studying at a university with degree awarding powers in the UK. This includes institutions in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland as well as those in England. [*=left]You must be resident in England prior to the beginning of your course. Exceptions may apply to EU students (see below). So, this is hopefully promising. This was copied from the original posting that can be found at: http://www.findamasters.com/funding/guides/new-uk-postgraduate-loans-scheme.aspx
  9. Hi everyone, I'm a UK citizen and am working through a MBA with Vic Uni and am considering moving back to the UK. Does anyone know if: 1. UK MBA courses recognise Australian MBA Units? 2. Is there a UK version of FEE-HELP that can be applied? Thanks, Jonathan
  10. Thanks! My father had the same approach with Spain and didn't make the move. He ended his years living in the UK and regretting it on a daily basis - not for me! I don't care in what I end up living in; caravan. boat, cardboard box etc, but do care where I end up
  11. July 2016 after 12 years in Vic. We've loved living in Australia, but now find we need to reconnect with our cultural roots and start planning next steps from the UK to retiring in France or Spain - the adventure continues!
  12. Thanks for all your responses. I should have better clarified our position, we are planning to return permanently to the UK so it's a one-way trip, hence the question around whether we have to depart on Australian passports :-)
  13. Myself, my wife and our two children all have dual nationality. My question is whether we need to present a valid Australian passport on exiting Australia for each of us or whether we can just present our British passports (that have no Australian visas)? I'm trying not to go through renewing two sets of passports per person for one trip if I can possibly avoid it... Thanks in advance, Jonathan
