    TAFE

Thanks, just looked but we do not qualify because he's classed as an International student. He's found a uni course he wants, Australia citizens circa $9000, International students $37,000

    TAFE

To be honest I'm out of my depth. My 18 year old needs to do something with his life. We're on 457 visas. I called TAFE for some advise and they told me $12-14,000 was the average price etc. He's looking at Uni courses now but TBH I really don't understand it all. Need to get some factual information from a reliable source.

    TAFE

Nearly fainted when I was told the average TAFE course is $12-14,000, for 1 year, 3 days per week. Does anyone know of any cheaper options?
  5. Hi, Bungo, Can you confirm if this is correct .. if you have been in Oz on a 457 for 2 years, moved employer during that time and have an offer of 2 years further employment. Then an application can be made for PR with a sponsored employer and no skills assessment needed?
  6. Hi Joie Keep your chin up, it does get better. Ive sent you a PM.
  7. @Gbye grey sky-We pay $450 per week at the moment plus toll fees which can add up to and extra $30 a week. Would go up to $500 if it was closer to Rocklea or keep to around $450 if travelling. @Lambeth Lad - yep, he's got to start a new life here, so hopefully he will get a career, mates and a girlfriend soon. Broke my heart when he went back to the UK, even though he only lasted 5 months. Want to help him kickstart things here so he stays.
  8. Thanks everyone who replied. Yep,in this Suburb were scared even going to the local supermarket. Our ignorance of not knowing the right areas has proved costly in lots of ways. Bit of a long story about how we came to be living here, but so glad I ticked the 6 month box on the tenancy agreement and not the 12 month. 128 days left on the agreement, not that were counting lol still have most of our stuff in boxes. While were on the subject can anyone recommend a nice area. My son would like more of a expat community around him. OH works in Rocklea.
  9. Our 18 year old son went back to England for a few months as he missed his mates in the UK. Now he's going to give OZ another go. We moved from Adelaide to Queensland a couple of months ago, while he's been back in England. Really don't want him to go back again, so we need ideas of how to get him to me people and get some mates. Anyone know of any soccer teams or groups he can get involved in? He will be looking for work or an apprenticeship too but as it will be his first job it might take a while. Location wise...We recently moved to Logan area. Logan is not exactly the ideal area for us, so will be moving closer to Brisbane in 4 months time when our tenancy agreement ends. Any ideas?
  10. Thank you for the replies. He hasn't been vaccinated for rabies and we have no plans to go back to England yet. I was thinking that if something happened back home in England, that we needed to go at short notice we would like to take him with us. So if it is a one time vaccination then we could get him vaccinated anyway. If however we got him vaccinated and had no need to fly back for say, 3 years, would we need to get a booster? or have blood test?
  11. Is the rabies vaccination a one time vaccination? If not when would a booster need to be done. If we needed to go back to England in a hurry we'd like to take our dog with us. Is it best to get him vaccinated anyway just incase? Also what is the average cost of the vaccination?
  12. 1, We're taking our cars what happens about registration and road worthy? 2, Can we keep with our SA driving licenses until they expire and just update the address? 3, Dog registration, paid in full for a year here. Do we ask for a refund and register in Brisbane? 4, We used a move cube to move to Adelaide. Been quoted $1,600 for a large cube inc insurance. Probably will go with that but do you know of a cheaper alternative? Thanks in advance for any replies
  13. I'm confident it will be different when your in the country. Not many people can secure a rental when your not here yet. We couldn't get letting agents to reply to emails from England either. Really feel for you, it is a worrying time and everyone keeps saying "I bet your excited" when really your worried sick. All the best. It will all work out ok in the end.
  14. I worried too but it really is easy to rent here. Properties are empty, you view, apply and they let you know within a couple of days. If successful you can move in as soon as you like. If you've rented before bring a reference from the letting agent in England. Get references from your employers in England if you haven't got a new employer here. Anything to show you are responsible. Bank statements will help too. It's not like England where they take weeks to do anything. We ended up in a lovely 3 bed a few streets back from the beach. It took us 10 days after landing to move in. If you've chosen schools you must live in the catchment area. Good luck with the move
  15. Im concerned. OH applied for a job, had the interview and has been told he's got the job. This will involve transferring the sponsor for our 457 visas. Paper work arrived on Friday minus the all important offer letter/contract. So he contact the employer and was told he needs to complete all the employment paperwork and send copies of our visas. They will then speak to the legal team and once it's all been processed they will send an offer letter. So we have no verbal or written confirmation of job title, hours of work, salary etc but they want to start the transfer of visa. Is this normal? it seems like a bit of a leap of faith to me?
  16. We applied for ours online the day after we arrived and gave my hubby's work address as a postal address. Remember to get your passports stamped on arrival at the airport. Banks and Medicare look for it. We didn't because we had the electronic passports and they questioned us a bit. You will all need to go to the Medicare place to sign up for Medicare too, they have to check your passports & visas and see you in person to verify your identity. I tried to go for all of us and had to go back all together.
  17. Thank you so much MaggieMay24 that has really helped elevate my fears.
  18. Hi Can anyone tell me what happens next? Were 15 months into our 457 visa and living in Adelaide, OH has be offered a better job in Queensland by another company and they are going to take on our 457 visas. Sorry if lots of silly questions. Only just found out he's got the job for certain and Im panicking a bit. I can't see anything in the current employment contract but will we have to pay any money to the current company or recruitment agent that help us get to Adelaide? They paid for my husbands visa, the visa agents fees and the recruitment agents fees. Will we have to pay to get the visas transferred to the new company? Will the current company find out about the new company whist the visa is being transferred? Thanks for any replies
  19. Wow must be an amazing house to pay 3 months rent in advance. Good luck with your move. Adelaide is great and I'm sure you will love it. As long as the rental agent is a well known company then I wouldn't worry too much. I think Marisawright is right in what she wrote.

    Rocklea

Hi everyone Thanks for taking the time to read this. Please could anyone recommend a nice respectable suburb near Rocklea to settle in? Schools aren't an issue as the children have flown the nest. Thanks in advance for any replies
