  1. I think it depends on the occupation as they don't all need one on a 457 visa (although I might be completely wrong). My husband is a chef and we are in touch with a recruitment and immigration agency. They have been sending us information on jobs and putting my husband forward for them and haven't mentioned a skills assessment. From that I am assuming he either doesn't need one or it can be done after a job is secured. Hopefully someone will correct me if I am wrong...
  2. Hi, We are going down the 457 route too as hubby is 45 so doesn't have enough points. We actually paid for a visa assessment with a MARA registered agent and they told us you don't need 60 points to transfer to PR from a 457 visa. I hope that helps. Laura
  3. Sorry that should say 186 not 1886.
  4. Hi Todd, It is a case of spending a lot of time online searching as far as I can tell. Indeed and seek seem to be the two main job sites although there are others. I just search under chef sponsorship jobs Australia, or similar. There are some agencies that might be worth approaching. I am pretty certain there were some plumbing jobs with sponsorship under the job vacancies on this site, but I can't be certain as I am focused on chef jobs. If you can I would recommend trying for 1886 / 187 visas as they have permanent residence and are still sponsored by a company. Some professions require a skills assessment for a 457 but I don't think you will need a medical. Good luck. Laura

    Childhood vaccines

Hi Naomi, Thanks for that. My youngest has her second men b on Tuesday, she will get the third when she is one if we are still over here. The nurse said that two are enough but I may pay for the third if we make it over before June. I think it is about £100 per jab here so a little cheaper in oz. Still trying to work out whether I get the other two done... Laura

Thank you. Thanks for the welcome too, I wish I was in oz but we are waiting for the house to sell to fund the move. I just need as many things straight in my head as possible so posted now. So much to think about and organise!!!

    Childhood vaccines

Funny how advice changes we were told to use a moisturizer with my second daughter and she has no scars. Thankfully my eldest daughter's scars aren't too bad. Thanks for the tip.
  9. You say you have nvqs in hospitality do you have any work experience in this area? Chef is on both the sol and csol lists and cafe / restaurant manager is on the csol list. But you need both experience and qualifications. (I. Only have experience so looking to gain a qualification too). With the csol list you do need sponsorship from either a company 457 temporary visa or 186 & 187 permanent visas, there may be others I just know these three as they are the ones we are looking to apply for. I would suggest speaking to a MARA registered agent to get the best advice. It may be possible to use the qualifications you have, get some years work experience and then apply. Will take longer but it will be worth the wait. Do make sure you use a recommended agent there are a lot of expensive horror stories out there!!!

Thanks littlesarah, that is reassuring to know they would be ok to have the injection.

Sorry should have given more details. My occupation is on the CSOL so it would be a state nominated or RSMS (Think I have the right letters) I think from your second post that means these visas and it wouldn't matter if my husband was over 50 he would be able to come over and work. Thanks for your help.

Hi all, Does anyone know if the age of your spouse effects your visa application? What happens if they are over 50? Many thanks

    Childhood vaccines

Thanks, my eldest has a couple of scars, but the youngest doesn't. I will check there is no risk having the vaccine if you have already had chicken pox.

    Childhood vaccines

Thank you. I was planning on bringing the red books just in case. The older two have had chicken pox do you think it is worth getting a letter from the gp to confirm? I don't want to miss the rebate because they haven't had a vaccine for something they have had already.

    Great news. Thank you
  17. Hi I am hoping someone can help. We are going to move to Australia as soon as our house sells, so without my crystal ball I haven't a clue when. We have three children who are currently 5, very nearly 3 and 13 weeks. There is a possibility we will be over before my almost 3 year old has her next injections and I am really hoping we will be over before my youngest has hers. The immunization program in Australia looks very similar to ours but there seems to be some extra ones. Will my youngest two be able to carry on with their next set of vaccines or will they have to have the ones they have missed? My eldest has had all that she should in the UK will she need the ones she has missed before she can start school? Are childhood vaccines covered by Medicare (we will be on a 457 if that makes a difference)? Or do you have to pay? If so how much? Many thanks in advance. Laura
  18. We have only had the visa assessment part of the service so far but we can recommend Simon Earles. I believe his company is called Signet (would need to check the emails to be sure). We found him as he is recommended through bobinoz.com. If you go via bobinoz.com website the visa assessment is slightly cheaper (I think it was $100 rather than $150). If you go on to use him for the rest of the application process the initial payment comes off the total. Like I said we haven't gone through the whole process with him yet but we were impressed with the level of detail in the visa assessment. He offered us Skype conversations too. Hope this helps.
  19. Hi I have just been looking at ebooks on Nottinghamshire library site and they have one called how to master the IELTS test. I guess they have a hard copy too and other counties probably have them too. One less thing to pay for!!
  20. Thanks for your response. Ideally I would like to apply for 186 / 187 (if I understand it correctly they are the permanent visas). Yes i am thinking about how to pass the skills assessment. By recognised I mean a qualification that would mean something in Australia.
  21. Hi all, Can anyone advise me what qualifications would be recognised for café / restaurant manager. I have enough years experience but have never needed qualifications to do my job. There are loads of options out there but I don't want to waste time and money doing a qualification that won't strengthen my visa application. Many thanks.
  22. Thank you that is really useful! He has done first aid qualifications before but it probably needs updating. He has been a head chef for over a decade so he does qualify thankfully.
  23. Thank you for your response. I will wait to see which visa the MARA agent recommends.
