  1. Hi, no we didn’t. A opportunity came up in Sydney so we moved here just over a year ago. More opportunities for us as a family
  2. Hey, so might be a long shot but is there anyone on here who has studied in Oz as early Years Teacher and gone through the visa process? Or anybody who has applied for the 190 nsw as early Years Teacher and can tell me the time period from eoi to invite?
  3. Yes exactly, I’ve spoken to so many people and there seems no way round the 0-2 years experience as the U.K. PGCE just doesn’t cover it. At least the degree in OZ i will be sure to have the right qualification. Also if Early Years Teacher did come of the list there are other occupations I could get sponsored in with the bachelor degree like Child Centre Manager or Lead Educator (regional of course)
  4. There are a few different reasons why but the main one being if I study in oz I will get extra points for the visa and as I will be nearly 40 once qualified I could do with the points, also to qualify here as a Early Years Teacher who have to do the PGCE which I’ve heard can be very difficult to get onto and can take a couple of years attempt to get a place, also my daughter is 6 now and I would like to go over while she’s still young, also the landlord is selling our property so seems like it’s a good time to go it’s not like we’re having to sell a house or anything like that. I’ve spoken to various people on different forums and there’s a lot of people who have done the student route with kids and got by, so I’m thinking, yes it will be a struggle but it also seems possible
  5. Ah didn’t know that, something to take into account
  6. If you do the course with TAFE in Sydney they subsidise the school fees to 5000aud per year, if you did the same course in QLD you would be paying 12,000aud. TAFE also have a really good deal with Medibank so offer cheaper medical insurance
  7. It will be NSW, my friend is currently living in the Hills District as it’s more affordable housing wise. She only started the course in January and has found it no problem getting work for the 20 hours in centres as there crying out for educators, they are even offering full time hours in the holidays which is reassuring
  8. Hi, thanks really interesting read. My friend has recently gone out too on the student visa with children, doing the same degree as me. I totally understand it’s a massive risk it’s whether we take that risk or not. The uni sets you up with paid employment for the 2 days your not at uni so quite confident I can get the 20 hours per week.
  9. Yes I know they were referring to children’s school fees so was I. Unfortunately my student fees are a lot more than 5000 aud
  10. I am quite aware of how long i need to study for to complete my degree, the cost of school and medical fees, the type of work we can get for part time hours. I’ve done my research. I was more looking for people’s personal experience who may have done it and been there as a student. Thanks for the info Jenki75 really helpful. For the degree I’m doing the school fee will be 5000aud per year so not too bad. Did you work part time too? If so how did you find it fitting in with your study and children?
  11. Yes I have looked into this and once the Degree is completed I will be able to apply for PR as Early Years Teacher no experience required (that’s if it stays on the list) my husband will have the same work rights as me 20 hours per week and full time in the holidays
  12. Hi, so I was wondering if anyone on here had gone out to oz on a student visa with children. I am aware of the expenses involved and there would be myself, hubby and 6 year old daughter. Wanted to hear people’s experience. I know you can only work 20 hours per week but full time during the holiday periods and I am just wondering if it is possible to survive doing this? I am looking at completing my degree in oz so I would be studying for 2 and a half years and could then apply for pr
  13. Thank you, looks like a really good event. Although it is a small rural town it does look like the community get together which is what we’re looking for
  14. Thanks so much for all the info and pics guys, so helpful. We have done heaps of research ourselves and it really does look like somewhere we could live, like some of you said we would defo be spending the odd weekend in Cairns. The most important thing for us that it is a safe place and has a community feel, and we love the heat! I think my daughter would be attending Cooktown state school so still need to find out a bit more info on that. We love the outdoor lifestyle, hence why we’re moving and I really do think that with it being a small community that your more likely to form close friendships unlike you would in a big city. Anyhow we should be hearing back in the next couple of weeks and then hopefully start the visa process.
  15. It looks like we would be going out on the 457 visa so I don’t think I would be entitled to any benefits but they said once I’m out there they will apply for the 187 visa for PR so maybe could get something then
  16. Thanks for the info and love your quote! That’s what I thought just see it as a bit of adventure for 2 years living and experiencing life somewhere we would never normally live and then we can always relocate to the Brisbane area (which is where we want to be) my main concern is that I would have a job to go to but my husband would properly find it really difficult to get work in such a small town (although he’s willing to do anything) my wage will be 75,000 so I’m hoping if we live by our means and with it just being the 3 of us then we might just manage
  17. Hi guys, so we have a possible job opportunity in Cook Town, Qld and I was wondering if anyone had moved there or visited there. I understand it’s a very rural small town and I’m just not sure if it would be to rural for me and my family. I would be moving with my husband and 6 year old daughter and we enjoy the outdoor lifestyle. We would have to stay in Cook Town for 2 years and would be then free to move on if we want to
  18. Hi guys thanks for all your advice. Yes after adding up all the costs myself I can see that we would just get by with that amount, we have a bit of savings so hopefully we would manage at first and hubby will just have to find a job asap! We do have a possible other opportunity which is more money but in Ararat, Vic not sure if it's a bit too rural though!
  19. Hi, thanks for all the info really helpful. We will be going out on a PR visa as I will be sponsored as a Lead Educator in a childcare centre so hopefully there shouldn't be a issue with school fees. My wage will be around 56,000 AUD my husband won't have a job to start with so we will have to live off my wage at first. Do you think it's possible on this wage I have heard Canberra can be expensive. We would be willing to rent a 2 bedroom apartment at first. Thanks
  20. Hi guys, so I have a possible job opportunity in Canberra. Has anyone made the move from the Uk to Canberra how have you found living there? It will be myself, husband and 6 year old daughter. How have your kids settled into schools, my daughter is quite shy so really worried about her making friends. What are the best suburbs to rent in? Are there plently of family activities at the weekend? Is it really that cold in winter? Thanks guys
  21. Hi just wondering how you all got on with the skills assessment? I have the equivalent to a Ozzie diploma but it's the work experience am worried about. I run my own childcare business from home and I employ an assistant so I do have managerial and leadership experience but not sure if it's enough. Did you have to provide bank statements and payslips as prove? Thanks
