  1. Hi, You are right, the link is very confusing, when I looked at ours last year it had different times. It looks like it is showing the process times for the speedy service only, but I could be wrong. I do know that it is based on the previous months applications, so you may be lucky and it's a quiet period. I would still steer on the edge of caution, as any appeals do take a long time to be heard and I have read that if you do need to appeal something like a rejection then it can take a year !! Did you include a property inspection report of where you will be staying in the uk ? We found this to be a bizarre and costly necessity
  2. Hi, if if you did not apply for the express visa service ( 900 extra) then expect it to take 3 months for an answer. You are advised not to book any flights beforehand. I don't want to scare you but a lot of people get rejected if they don't submit he correct paperwork and have to re submit. I applied for our uk spouse visa from Brisbane in March last year, I didn't use the express service as I don't like throwing money away, I received approval I think in late May and I was able to fly early June. So it was a little less than the 3 months but not a lot different. I looked in alt of forums and times do vary a bit depending on your visa type and complexity. I would advise not to book anything until your visa has been approved as they are quiet strict and there is a lot of paperwork involved. i hope that helps, I'm sure you could just rebook your flights but I wouldn't go organising any shipping containers or anything like that just in case.
  3. I successfully applied for a UK spouse visa last year and as long as you do your homework and read up on forums what's required in relation to your particular situation then you will be fine. Why pay someone loads of money to do something you can do for yourself. I would encourage people to do it themselves, unless they like throwing money away. I also had to apply through the " self employed route" which is a difficult one
  4. We did a similar thing, moved to Uk last June. My partner is from the Uk and I'm Australian. I have struggled and still are struggling, best thing I found was to talk it through with your partner. We have decided to give it 6 more months and then return in July, if I'm still not settled. Everyone tells me you need to give it a year, and some say your feelings may not change ! After we decided to give it 6 more months, I felt a lot better, there was a light at the end of the tunnel and we would be more financially able to do the move back again. All you can do is give it your best shot, and then decide on where your heart lies, I know mines back in Oz, but I don't want to give up too quickly after all it's taken to get us here. Hope that's of some help xx
  5. I think it cost us approx 1000 in total
  6. Hi , My partner is a carpenter and we had to move his tools and assorted bits and bobs ( all very heavy ) from Brisbane to Derbyshire, U.K. last April. After doing some research , we decided on the move cube, we packed our household goods ( furniture, kitchenware, computer, to, ect) and all his tools in a medium sized move cube . He packed most of his tools in plastic milk crates and stacked them on top of each other. The move cube arrived under the allocated time , which was under 3 months and everything was fine. I did get quotes from other companies but they charged a lot, and as most tools are quiet heavy, make sure you get one with a good weight allowance. Google move cube, I think the company is called " seven seas" and we were really happy with them . Will use the again , as we might be moving back to Oz in July . Any other questions , let me know, hope that helps.
  7. Hi Beachbum, Im not an expert but I have been feeling the same but I'm the opposite to you. Moved from Brisbane to uk , about 8 months ago and I have struggled for the last 6 months,, only just started talking to mypartner now about returning home ( as I felt guilty and I didn't want to burden him with my depression )Homesickness takes over you and all I think about 24 hours a day is being somewhere else. Talking to people does help, you don't need a pychiatrist, everyone tells me to give it more to and as we can't afford to go back anyway , we have decided to give it another 6 months then return to Oz in July. Since knowing that I can leave in 6 months I feel a lot better, feel like there is a light at the end of tunnel. Your not going crazy and homesickness is not something you plan for or want to bear but it's kind of like losing your identity and being set adrift , hope that makes sense. I cry all the time and I'm 5 months pregnant, and the thoughts of having my baby in another country without my family/friends plays on my kind all the time but I'm happier knowing that I have given it more time and if I still do like it in 6 months I can go home . Hope that helps big hugs xxx
  8. I used move cube, they were excellent, you can get small sizes cubes to suit your needs

    Moving Cubes

Hi, I used a move cube ( medium size) earlier this year from Brisbane to Buxton ( Uk) and found them to be excellent, it actually arrived earlier than expected, which suited us. Make sure you pack everything really well, this can be quite time consuming but you can fit a lot in them. We sent over our 50 inch Tv, desktop Mac computer, chest of drawers x 3, my partners work tools ( weighed a lot) and various other household items/supplies. We found if you can get some milk crates , then pack things in them, they are really string and you can stack them on top of each other. Everything arrived in one piece and no problems with customs. I would highly recommend them . I could not find a cheaper option , as our stuff was very heavy, so move cube were perfect .
  10. We are not using a agent either, we only just finished going through a visa for my partner to stay here a few years ago and although it took a lot of reading and research we received it with no problem, so I don't want to pay someone else loads of money when I can do it myself
  11. Hi Joanna, My name is Jayne (Australian)and I am currently starting the process of applying to move back to UK with my partner ( UK/Australian) and 3 year old ( dual passport holder) and it's taking me a while to firstly understand the process and requirements and also what category we would fit into! We are hoping to move to Uk in mid April and I'm hoping to get application submitted in the next month at the latest. It would be great to go through the nightmare together
