  1. Hi We are currently renting in Glenmore Park and have decided purchase our first house, we have been pre approved for $600K. The wish list is:- 3 Beds 2 Parking with at least 1 single garage 2 bathrooms In ground swimming pool Given the above and after extensive research on Domain, the only areas that can offer this are Hamlyn Terrace Berkeley Vale Gorokan Killarney Vale Kanwel San Remo Halekulani Woongarrah If anybody can offer any advice on the above areas, it would be appreciated, we are small family with a 10 year old daughter, a son (30) may join us later, but given we have moved half way across the world, would like to make this our last move for a long time, so we do not want any regrets. We have driven round most all of the above areas and have made some pre conceptions of what we think, but I realise this is not the best way, so I'm reaching out to the all knowing PIO forum base. Thanks Neil
  2. Hi We are currently going through the 457 Visa process and hope to relocate to Sydney in June 2015. My wife has just been diagnosed with polymyalgia Rheumatic. Which needs long term treament via prednisolone steroid tablets. All my costings are down to the wire (Sydney is very expensive), could anyone guide me as to what the likely on going costs would be for the tablets and Dr's visits.Would this be covered by medical insurance? would/can the tablets be purchased over the counter etc Any help would be appreciated Regards Neil
  3. Great info guys. @MARYROSE02, @Marisawright, @LKC, @TheLoadedDog. i think we will try for Engadine or further into Sutherland shire budget permitting. Of course all this may change once we get over and get a better feel for the areas. We are hoping to do short term rental for 6 or so weeks first. thanks again
  4. Hi Mungbean i have a fairly complete sheet, I can email if you PM me your email address, I have also asked @george8181 for his sheet as I think some of my figures are high. If if you want to know any individual costs please ask. when where are you hoping to relocate to? neil
  5. Hi Mungbean, The figures came from a friend in Melbourne, I'm begining to think they may be high, as a few people have said they are in the high side. Please let me know what typical monthly costs are so I can adjust my sheet thanks
  6. Hi thanks for the comments, I was not aware that it also got colder during the winter months in the far western suburbs and I have to say an extra 2 degrees does sound nice at the moment but can easily see how that would become unbearable. Thanks @MARYROSE02 for the details on Penrith, do you have any idea on how long a car commute would be into the CBD, as a field engineer the car is my tool box and office so needs to be with me most of the time. Also what would be the travel time to the airport Thanks
  7. Hi Marisawright thanks for the comments, they are really appreciated. I think I should have been clearer with the Emu Plains bit, in short it's value for money in terms of what you get for your money. The extra few degrees would probably be a positive too. Sutherland shire sounds and looks great, but the few properties in our budget look very ropey. Again Engadine looks great, houses are starting to look better for our budget to. I think you are right we need to compromise on something, but what and researching remotely is difficult which is why your comments are really welcome by the way, I would never consider living in London, and really hope Sydney is nothing like London in any aspects apart from high living costs. :-) thanks
  8. Hi All Like "MIRFINSTOOZ" I'm also interested in some of the big bills. Here is what I have from some research. The figures below are per Month living in the greater Sydney region. Gas $115 Water $40 Elec $200 Internet $50 Groceries $800 (family of 3) And guidance, if the above figures are low or high please let me know Thanks in advance
  9. Hi LKC Thanks for the reply, we have looked at Sutherland and Engadine, but the rental prices were over budget. I will keep trying though as a few people have already mentioned Sutherland in other posts.
  10. Hi Please take it easy with me, this is my first post. I have just excepted a Field Service position based in Sydney. Start date is 16 March. I have done lots of research on Domain and real estate for rental properties, but now I'm really over whelmed. My situation is:- Myself, wife and 10 year old daughter $500 - $550 max per week rental The role is field based, with work either in Sydney CBD, greater region or a flight away to Melbourne etc I do not mind 1 - 1,5 hrs commute each way (I currently do this in the UK) looking for:- 3 bed, property (not apartment) Garden Garage Family friendly & Safe Suburb Wife like moderen and open plan at most short drive (15 mins) to beach Good Schools Areas we have considered - Thoughts on these please Wollongong, figtree, Berkeley, Bellambi, Woonona, Austinmer & Corrimal, Terrigal & Central Coast Region Camden, Mount Annan, Spring Farm Gosford, Kariong Emu Plains, Springwood, Penrtith - You get a lot for your $ here and would keep Wife happy, but long way from the coast. I know its a long list, but if anyone can comment on any of the above, re schools, shops, safety commute times, out door lifestyle it would be great. We have friends who live in Oxford Falls and Brookvale, but the northern beaches are way out of our budget. All info guidance appreciated.
