  1. Finally an update for me!

    Date Applied: 28/06/16

City council: Broome shire but it gets sent to regional WA Perth office

    Online

    Acknowledgement received moments after applying

    More info requested: 01/11/16

Form 1195 posted to regional WA office as per CO request: 02/11/16

Citizenship test received via email: 25/11/16

    Date of citizenship test: 08/12/16

Less than 2 weeks til my test, I've been waiting almost 5 months so pleased finally some progress. My kids are 6 & 8 will they be granted citizenship after my test date since they don't have to do the test or ceremony?

your kids do not become citizens until you become a citizen. So although they do not have to physically attend the ceremony, their citizenship is dependent on when you become a citizen. They will not get their citizenship certificate until you have finish attending the ceremony yourself.

  2. Hi everyone,

My case is a bit complicated. I am not sure I should post my question in this thread. If not, please guide me to the right place.

My citizenship apply date is 12/08/16, I got an email to request additional information on 20/08/16. I provided the information on the same day. Now, I am waiting and nothing coming yet.

My current visa 187, conditioning I have to keep my job (the nominated employer) for 2 years from the day visa granted (The 187 visa granted on 11/08/15). However, my employment came to an end today. Will it affect my citizenship application? Is there anyone has been in the similar situation?

    Thank you.

What additional information was asked from you? I lodged my citizenship application 16 September 2016 and I am also on a 187 visa

  3. I applied last week and was able to upload PDFs which the system split into jpegs. The only issue I faced was while uploading passport twice (Once for Present country of citizenship, Evidence and the same passport for First arrival in Australia, Evidence).Since the file name was same system couldn't handle it. So after the 1st upload had to change the filename in my computer to different one. Hope I didn't confuse you :)

    Thanks kcec826

  4. Can the Form 1195 (identity declaration form) be signed 2 weeks before eligibility date for citizenship or do I have to wait until the day I am eligible to have it signed? My friends lives in another state and I have to mail the forms to him. I wanted to have everything ready so I can lodged as soon as I become eligible. Also when I logged in my immiaccount today it says that there have been issues with attaching documents for citizenship in pdf format and they recommend the jpeg format. how did you attach files with multiple pages in jpeg format? Is there a way to combine multiple pages in one jpeg file such as the form 1195 which is 2 pages?

  5. Thanks Sarah2016 and Nemesis for the reply.

Another quick question. Do we have to apply for an Australian Penal Clearance ourselves or does DIBP do it for us? If we have to apply ourselves, do we apply to Australian Federal Police (just like what we submitted for our Permanent Residence application)?

  6. Hi guys! I am preparing my documents to apply for citizenship next month. For the proof of address, is a foxtel cable statement or a bank statement acceptable? our electricity bill and water bill is not in my name so I cannot use those so I am planning to send my Foxtel cable bill (is this acceptable)?

  7. This is off topic but I am preparing for my citizenship application and I am wondering if the photo requirements for citizenship is as strict as the photo requirements like for a passport application. Form 1195 states passport-sized photos but does it mean strict compliance to the guidelines set for photos used for passport application? I am thinking of taking the photos ourselves instead of having to go to austpost to get photos. Anyone here whose photos have been rejected for citizenship application?

  8. Good question.

Visa eligibility includes health criteria but Citizenship eligibility does not. Depending on the age of your child he may be included on your citizenship application (presuming you meet the eligibility requirements) and will be exempt from taking the Citizenship test and pledge.

See http://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Citi/pathways-processes/application-options/migrant-with-permanent-residence for the application process and document checklists.

Thanks for the reply Ricco. I am glad there is no health criteria for citizenship.

  9. Hi Nicolo,

I'd just add to Richard's reply that if it appears that details of your son's autism were withheld from the Department then there might be serious complications - the Department has been reviewing many old files to retrieve adverse information which it is raising at the time of application for citizenship - but unlike many congenital defects and disabilities, autism only becomes apparent during childhood and hopefully it won't be an issue for you.

    Cheers,

    George Lombard

Thanks for for the reply. When we applied and got our permanent residence my son who was only 2 years old was not yet doing any therapy as we did not suspect anything wrong so I think we did not withheld anything from Immigration as there was nothing to report. I am just concerned about the citizenship application if the current finding of the doctor will affect his citizenship application. He is now 3 years old.

  10. We are permanent residents and planning to apply for Australian citizenship in October 2016. My son has speech delay so has been seeing a speech therapist and occupational therapist. He also saw a paediatrician and the doctor said he is showing some signs of autism but the doctor has not made a final/official diagnosis of autism.

Does having a diagnosis of autism be a reason for Immigration to deny my son to be an Australian Citizen? I know it has been grounds to deny permanent resident application but how about Australian Citizenship?

Congrats Tilva. I'm so glad to hear May approval for 187 visa. Hoping to get mine soon as I lodged on 7 May 2015 with nomination already approved on 1 May which is very close to your timeline.

  13. just one question i was thinking the person who holds 457 applies for 186. i didnt know after 457 two years people can put 187 applications.

may be i should go to immi website and go through info again.

If the 457 employer is in Regional area, you can apply either the 186 or 187 transition stream. We chose the 187 because IMMI website states it is priority 1 thinking it would be faster than the 186, however right now it seems like 186 approvals are faster.
