  1. Pig N Whistle for the 1st Six Nations game - a sea of red I can imagine. Saw a chap in a welsh Jersey last Saturday @ Eat Street. decided to introduce myself, to find an Aussie! We're all out there somewhere .. Just need to look harder [emoji23]
  2. Great to see some fellow Welshies on here. We're also in the Redlands (Capalaba) renting short term after arriving in Feb. Totally agree with Redland Bay / Victoria Point for the commute to Logan. Straight out the back, avoid the highway and a lovely commute. Vicky Point / Thornlands booming with new builds at the moment, that's where we'll be looking at long term. Carindale a good shout for a city commute, bus in as almost straight into the bus lanes (almost). I do the train from Thornside to City for work, can be a pain!
  3. Just been through the back end of my 1st Brisbane summer away from Wales (Blackwood). Agree with the Ponty answer, it hammers down and moves on. Far to hot for a coat, and shirt no tie for work. It's pleasant now - see a lot of locals with coats / hats / scarves etc, but still just a shirt for me [emoji106] When we had that the storm the other week, umbrellas were more of a hinderance than a help for people. You just need to take cover, It's an incredible site.
  4. Everything goes through AQIS .... Australian Quarantine Inspection Service

There's no rule - depending on what visa you're on would vary the risk to the provider, and therefore the interest rates [emoji106]
  6. Ours was $220 for 320 cubic feet and that included GST on several items less than a year old [emoji106]
  7. Moved to the Redlands 3 weeks ago with my wife! Stayed with friends in short term rental and went for viewings over 1st week. Got the first one we went in for. Rented in UK so had letter from old landlord, bank statement to prove you have funds, passport and copies of VISAs. That's all that required of us. You pay four weeks bond and 1st two weeks rent up front which we did. We also put down references of friends we know in Aistralia and they were contacted. We're prepared to pay six months up front but didn't come to that. [emoji106]
  8. Thanks for some of the replies! Because everyone is different, to reply to some of the less helpful!! Me and the wife loved our Chinese takeaways on a Saturday, and now and again we'd love to have one over here!! Chicken chow mein, crispy beef, curry sauce - mmmm! Would love for someone to have found a Chinese (takeaway or sit in) that would resemble the British style Chinese!
  9. Have been there on a previous visit many years ago! Didn't know they did frozen though! Have been to paprika on more recent trips and dos prefer it to be honest! Chinese is the one missing really. All our Pom friends can't seem to find any decent English style Chinese!
  10. Calling all Brisbane-ites! Just want to know what Takeaways & Restaurants you all visit in Brisbane. Cuisines that taste like what you had back home! Obviously Chumley Warners over in Bayside is the chippy, but what about Indian / Chinese food? Would be interesting to know for when you want to sample "tastes from back in the UK". We've also been to the pub down mount Tamborine way for our draught beer & Sunday lunch! You never know, you could end up sharing a restaurant in the future with fellow members!!!
  11. Thanks so much for the info! We're originally being put up in the Redlands with friends until we secure a rental ourselves. We'd prefer Redlands area due to familiarity but with a right budget (wife attending uni) we're looking anywhere. More Logan way looking more affordable to us at the minute.
  12. Just want to open up a general discussion on renting, following on from DKeiths post about no credit rating. Me & Wife arrive in Brisbane 2 weeks Thursday. We've got short term rental sorted and are off to our first viewing on the 1st Saturday we're there with regards to a log term rental. However, I'm conscious we're not prepared for what questions / evidence etc we're to be asked. Can anyone provide advice / idiots guide with a run down of what we'll need to provide / have throughout each stage, what we'll need to take to the viewing etc. Thanks!
  13. Just used Pickfords 3 weeks ago for a move to Brisbane from Blackwood. Totally recommend, 3 man packing team were superb and even had over £200 repaid to us for not using as much as was quoted. Not through not shipping enough, just because these companies have to predict volume of goods by eyesight. Not many companies would give you money BACK!
  14. Hi all, Frequent viewer rare poster of this forum! Me & the Wife are arriving in OZ in Febraury, and I'd be interested to know it what people do to save money in OZ! I'm a keen voucher hunter / money saver back in the UK, firmly believing that every little helps! so would love to know what is out there in OZ, and what tips users have [emoji41] In the UK, I use apps such as Shopitize, Voucher Codes, TopCashBack (a lot), and have a savings card with Asda where we do our weekly shop. They vow to be 10% cheaper than other major supermarkets or they'll give you a voucher for the difference. We put these vouchers lot out savings card, and also round up our weekly shop to the nearest £5 and see what we have at Xmas. To can put £144 onto each card ad Asda the give you £6 at Xmas. So far we have £144 on one card and £29 on the 2nd - this pays for our shopping all over the holiday period plus we buy kitchen equipment needed throughout the year. Love to hear everyone else's little tips!!
  15. Hey guys, Simple question - anyone have any alternatives to Movecube. We can't justify the expense of a part / full container, and also don't have enough items to ship. The Movecube size medium / large seems ideal, but it be nice to scope the competition for other prices & services (have read the majority of reviews on Movecube on here). Thanks!
