Is this what most people do? Also, do most people rent furnished? obviously container will take a few months so just. Wondering what others have done in those first few months. We have 3 kids so not that easy just to slum it for a while!!! thanks a lot for any advice! X
  2. hi thanks for response. I have an interview nxt week for sf George's private hosp. I am suprised u living on a single salary?! Didn't think that was possible in Sydney. Do u mind me asking how much I pay for your rent each week? Are bills expensive? And how much do u pay for private schooling? I Didn't think that wud b an option! Also what r midwives paid? I have 19 years experience. thanks a lot x
  3. Hi , thanks for all your responses. I have been researching the school thing and as long as my eldest can get GCSE's in maths and English he should be fine. I am excited about it and looking forward to the adventure! thanks again! X

  6. Thanks to everyone for your responses, they were really helpful. We have narrowed some schools down and have ideas of where to rent but it's difficult to know for sure until we get there! I might make contact with the schools to ensure where the catchment areas r fir each! Cheers and good luck to u all x
  7. Hi, just wondering if anyone in the process of moving to Oz has been having any doubts about it?! At the moment I am having days where I am super excited but others when I just feel anxious about it all. I know that all of this is probably normal but just wanted some reassurances that it is! I am worrying a lot about my children and how they will settle, especially my 14 year old son; although he is happy to go. I am concerned that if we come back after 2 years ( we have planned to assess the situation after this time) that he will have missed his GCSE's. I am wondering whether the NSW's Rosa I think it's called, will enable him to do a levels here if we did return?! If anyone knows the answer to this I would be really grateful. Also, I would like to hear from anyone who had doubts and worries but are now settled and happy! Thanks xx
  8. Hi we r due to emigrate at the beginning of Sept and wondering if I shud be starting to contact local schools? I'm not sure if I wud need an address first but obviously, won't b renting until we arrive. Do the schools need an address? We have narrowed down r search for areas but not sure hiw close to tge school we will have to b to get in! any help greatly appreciated thanks x
  9. Thanks to everyone for your responses. I think it will b me going with the job offer! Just hope my husband gets work as well otherwise we will b returning! Not sure that we could sustain a decent lifestyle on one salary but hopefully things will work out for us x

  12. Thanks for your advice. Yes I have been a bit over presumptuous re the job market! I thought with PR visas and him being on SOL it wud b easy?! Starting to realise that's not the case! Him going before us is a very good idea, thanks xx
  13. Thanks I think I will have to start looking for myself! Best of look to u xx
  14. I am a midwife and registered last yr in Perth. My husband is an engineer, telecommunications, or a network planner ( it's a niche market he tells me!) he wud earn more than me and the hope was I cud have a few months off to get the kids settled, so I don't really want to go just on my job alone but understand we might have to! X
  15. Hi we have had PR visas since January and my husband has been looking for work the last 2 months. He is on the SOL and applied for numerous jobs with no response?!!! We r hoping to go this summer as don't want the kids to have to restart school in September, but I'm starting to get worried that getting a job isn't as easy as I thought! Is it better to b there do you think? That wud mean us going without a job offer which is risqué with kids or do we just wait it out a bit longer! We have let r house out and living with my mum but getting stressed with the whole thing. Any advice wud b much appreciated! Thanku xxx
  16. Hi we r moving hopefully to Sydney in the summer ( me, husband and 3 kids 14,11,8 ) just waiting for husband to get a job! I am aid wife and all registered with APHRA, but want to settle kids in before I start work. Does anyone know if it is hard to secure work when not in the country? My husband is a systems engineer and on the SOL but not getting responses yet from job applications:( we have PR status with 189 visa. thanks for any responses to this! jill xx
  17. Hi, just wondering if anyone has made the move with a teenager and any tips or advice? Did they slit into school ok? Also have u considered re entering them back into school in England if u ever decided to come back? As they wud have no GCSE's. This is a bit late in the day for me to b asking as due to move in July, but all of a sudden thinking if all different things and wot iffs! thanks in advance for any advice!!!
  18. Hi , not sure about the certifying but but we got 189 visa within 10 months! X good luck x
  19. Hi, I'm wondering if anyone can answer my question about OZ qualifications in relation to GCSE's?! We have our PR visas and plan to move in September. My eldest son will b 14 and would b starting year 10 here in Britain. Obviously we want to emigrate and be there forever (NSW hopefully) but if it all fails and we don't settle after 2 years, what will happen about re commencing school here for my son? Will he have to do GCSE's or will the Australian ACS exam act as an equivalent? Would he be able to do A levels here or not??? Or have university problems? Has anyone had this issue and moved back to England with kids? If so what happened with their schooling? i doubt we will b able to afford private ed in OZ as we have 3 children all together! i would be really grateful of any help advice/info. thanks a lot x
  20. Hi, I was wondering if anyone can help me with this issue?! I have my PR visa and due to move to either Sydney or Brisbane this summer ( depends where husband gets a job). Do I need to make sure that my kids go to a school offering the baccalaureate curriculum so that if we ever came back to England, their qualifications would b recognised? In Brisbane the schools offering this r private schools only. I have 3 children so not sure if this option possible! I'm a bit confused. If they went to state school does it mean their qualifications would not b recognised here?? I would b really grateful for any advice. thanks xx
  21. Thanku for reply. I'm glad your daughter settled eventually! Hopefully will b the same for my eldest!!! Fingers crossed x
  22. Thanku so much for the advice! Made me feel a lot better! X
  23. Ultimately the kids will do what we do, of course! Maybe I'm an abnormal mother for considering my sons concerns, but I am worried if he's not happy! My kids are 'allowed' freedom of speech at the end of the day. I'm sure lots of children around the globe try to protest things I wud say that is kind of normal?! I just needed some advice and reassurances about how to soothe his worrys as his mother!
  24. Hi thanks for the advice! He is ok with living with his nan as for the foreseeable future, his life won't change much! We did all discuss this 12 months ago and he was really up for it! But as it doesn't happen over night, he has now changed his mind! I'm hoping he will come around to it again as we have spent £10,000! Plus I think he will have a great life experience/ adventure! It's difficult for anyone to know how it will all pan out with immigration but I'm hopeful we will have a great new life. I can't think about it any other way really. X
