  1. Thanks for that Alan think that means you have to be over 65 as we were not at the time of application but are nearly there now but we are still in the uk because we are both still working part time so can keep saving but have just submitted police checks and medicals and form 80 so hopefully not to much longer .
  2. Hi Alan do you know what the difference is between a 864 visa and a 143 visa other than one seems to be processed a faster .we applied end of September 2013 for a 143 visa and have only just been asked to go for and submit our medicals and police checks and a form 80 ,only just thinking there must be a big difference because of the waiting times many thanks cookfoody
  3. just had our medicals last week yes there is a blood test chest xray urine test eyesight test and a physical examination we went as a couple but seen separately
  4. think that what we have applied for the 173 you the have two years and if you don't settle or like it you don't pay the 2nd instalment its all very confusing my daughter is dealing with everything for us so we don't have to worry to much
  5. Hi we applied for a 173 parent contributory visa not sure of the total cost but up to now it has been about 2,000 dollars for the application to get started police checks 50 ukpounds each medical 320ukponds each then the next payment of just over 50,000 dollars when the visa is granted then in two years the final payment not sure what it will be but think it will be 30,000 dollars plus . We first applied in September 2013 so its quite a long process , you can wait in Australia for the visas to be completed but as we are semi retired so still earning we decided to wait in the uk as we can still be earning and saving a bit more , I am already get my state pension my husband will get his next January and these will be frozen when we finally move to OZ so every little helps for the future . We will have to rent or buy when we get there . but I suppose if you lived with your children the costs wont be as much . im feeling really scared but know we are doing the right thing hope this helps cookfoody PS that might be a 143 visa not 173 ?
  6. thank you littlelegs i do understand and you do get impatient we applied september 2013 and have just heard this week to start getting things in place , we were told to get police checks and medicals ready last september but someone told us if you get them to early ie six months before the visa is granted you have to do them again at a cost to us so we waited now we have been told we have 28 days to submit them so im glad we waited police checks are do medicals next week . We are also like you boyh children in australia our son in Brisbane and daughter in Sydney and four grandchildren all under six we just want to see more of them as you miss such a lot but thank god for skype , im sure we are doing the right thing we have no one in the uk now well only friends who i will miss but feel we have to be with our family ,good luck with your visa hope it wont be much longer
  7. thank you its a bit like swimming in mud but im sure it will all work out
  8. just heard yesterday after one year and 10 months our parent migrant visa is finally moving we have been asked to get things in place ie police checks medicals and all of the forms our daughter i Sydney is dealing with it for us to try to make it easier for us does anyone know now about how long the process will take and will we now have a case worker getting scared now its becoming real excited as well
  9. another question guys we wiil be bringing a classic car with us is it right that you have to have been granted a visa before you can ship it we were thinking we could ship it to our son in Brisbane but may husband thinks he has read somewhere we cant do that as our son is not the ownwer of the car
  10. thanks for you advice as we have a house to sell think it will at least 6 months before everything is sorted both of our children are now setteled in oz one in Sydney and one in Brisbane so retiring and moving to oz to be nearer to them and grandkids nothing inthe uk for us anymore im sure i will be asking for a lot more advice in the future thanks again cookfoody
  11. thank you everyone for all your replys and advice very helpful think we just need to play the waiting game only we were led to believe they would start processing after about 12 months and as we appiled september 2013 we thought things would start moving but it seems not .My daughter inSydney is acting for us and she had a email last january telling us to have police checks and medicals in place by september which we have just done but now if they dont start until next Feb may hve to have them done again as they are only valid for six months bit annoying but will just have to go with it anyway big thanks Geordi Jo and all cookfoody
  12. anyone know if the time scale for parent contributry visas has changed have been waiting 12 months now and still not heard anything might just sell up in the uk and go to oz and wait there getting fed up of not hearing anything
  13. thanks for all of the advice very helpful we don't have to sell our house as we have enough funds but do not want to sell up and rent as we think it would be money wasted our daughter thinks we should sell up and come to oz on a 12 month visitors visa and hopefully the other visa will have been granted by then a risk I know
  14. many thanks Alan bit disappointed its longer than I thought .
