    I have not logged onto this forum for some time. I was shocked as well to hear of the cap and cease as I was also a former 176 offshore applicant before I decided the waiting game has to end. One year exactly after I was granted PR in another visa category this cap and cease came into effect. I really do not know what to say. I will continue to support you guys if you decide to fight on but if there is an alternative way maybe you should consider it as well. Don't give up your dream.

    Received grant yesterday. I applied on June 20th. From my observation, grants come after 2 weeks of submitting final documents requested by case officer. Keep your fingers crossed everybody. :wink:

    Westwoodwizard, My agent has confirmed by ringing up Qld office that I can no longer change 176fs to 176ss. I will be lodging a new 190 application.

    Arshad, It is no longer possible to convert 176fs to 176ss. My agent confirmed with the sponsoring state office.

    Dyanne, Category 3, schedule 3 - is it referring to occupation in demand? I remember there was another list of occupations in demand back then but it is not the same as SOL list. My nominated occupation was on the SOL but not on the other list. When I applied, I actually had enough points to go for 175 but I went for 176 instead thinking that having a sponsor would be added advantage. I did not use an agent and by the time they emailed me in July 2012 (I believe we got the same email), my occupation has already been dropped from the SOL list. I didn't consider looking for a State sponsor at that time because I just had a baby and a move just wasn't on my cards yet with another toddler in tow. Now, with things a bit settled, I am reconsidering my plans and looking at other options and the only option I have now is going for state sponsorship. I do hope that all 176FS will finally get processed after such a long wait. It is just not fair to keep us hoping for so long.

    AdamSarah, My agent submitted my Vetassess on 2nd Jan 2014. I have been waititng till now. It is close to 18weeks now. The wait is killing me. I do want to make it this financial year.

    Hi Jacky, I wouldn't get my hopes up so high. As westwood wizard says, we offshore cat5 FS are at the bottom of their processing list. I think person 3 has been there for some time, can't remember since when though. They were quick enough to change my passport details as I have uploaded my new passport details by submitting form 929 but I still do not see my 2 sons details being added as person 4 and person 5 although I emailed them Form1022 Change of Circumstances at the same time as my Form 929. There were no email from them informing me my passport details have been changed. It was only when I tried to check my application status online using my old passport number, it says a mismatched with my TRN. When I tried my new passport number, I am able to log in. I do not know how long it takes for them to verify an addition of child/children to current 176I application. Perhaps someone who have done so could provide some info?

    Hi Jacky, Mine showed the same thing. Family sponsor name is now named as Person 3 on online status.

    Hi cjenky, Just want to enquire. Can we apply for jobs before I got the visa itself? Will employers even consider us? I intend to submit EOI after my VETASSESS comes back. Should be anytime now.

    Westwood wizard, There are some news from another thread that 176FS is finally going to be processed this year. But whether it is really going to happen or not, I am not sure. 6years down the road waiting, I have lost 5points on age factor. And if I were to wait any longer, well, I might lose even more points. When a migration agent we consulted asked us this question, "Would you like to go to Queensland? They are sponsoring your occupation. " I jumped at the opportunity. We do intend to honour our moral obligation to stay in the state for 2years if we were granted SS. When I reapplied VETASSESS, I kept my fingers crossed that they wouldn't drop my occupation from the SMP list while I was waiting but then anything can happen along the way. Migration rules might change, state might reject sponsorship, there's no guarantee. But at least I am trying instead of just waiting. But if they do process 176, it would be wonderful news. Hopefully before I spend AUD10500.....:wink:

    Westwoodwizard, Question 1:Yes. In order to get 20points for English, you will have to score a min of band 8.0 for each individual section. Therefore I only get 10 points for English. However, I still achieve a min of 60points. Question 2:Depending on your agency that certifies your occupation and how long the assessment is going to take. If it is VETASSESS like mine, be prepared for the 4month wait. State SMPs do change from time to time usually at the beginning of the financial year. Sometimes, there is a cap to some occupations that receives a high number of applications. I have noticed that some states like NSW close their SS application as early as Feb and they will advised to try again the next financial yr. I'm not an expert in this, perhaps you would like to consult a migration agent, see what options are available. I do hope I will be able to make it this yr as I do not know whether QLD will be sponsoring the next financial yr and it is the only state which is currently sponsoring my occupation. 6 years have been a long, long wait......     Westwood wizard, IELTS test is now much more difficult compared to 6 years back. Audios were clear itself however I did not hear clearly one or two words and it turn out to be the answer itself. However, still managed a L 8.0, R 9.0, W 8.0, S 7.5. Overall 8.0. I am a non native speaker.

    Westwoodwizard, I am not sure if it could be done or not. I received an email from DIBP in July2012 that I could get a SS and inform them via form 1022 change of circumstances. However, as lebourvellec pointed out and from some where I have read that 176fs to 176ss dateline was end of 2012. Can someone verify this? Is it it true that 176fs cannot be changed to 176ss anymore? According to my agent ( we recently got one to relook into our options, we didn't have one previouly), we can try to get a ss and attempt to update DIBP, but if it is not possible, then we have to be prepared to lodge a whole new application 190. That's AUD10500 for us. Me, my partner and 2 kids. I cannot take the route that A4Ron has taken because my occupation is no longer on the sol list. As for retaking IELTS and VETASSESS, agent says the they were outdated and advised me to get new ones.

    Hi, I am one of them. Offshore FS-176. Tired of waiting and decided to take a new course. Apply SS and inform DIBP of change in circumstances. That way I don't have to relodge a new application 190 and spend a huge amount of money.

    I applied under FS 176 in April 2008. In 2012 I received an email frm dimia informing me that my occupation is no longer on the sol list and that i am in category 5 group processing. They gave me an option of keep on waiting, find a state or employer to sponsor me and reapply under a new visa category or withdraw my application. Last year, my occupation was listed on Queensland state csol and I am now reapplying under 190. My IELTS and VETASSESS needs to be redone as my previous ones were outdated. They did inform me incase I found a state or employer to sponsor me, I just need to inform via form 1023 change of circumstances. Whether I will need to pay again the whole visa fees is still unknown as I am currently in the stage of waiting for my Vetassess results to come back.

    Dear all, I would like to know if it is possible to lodge EOI for Qld state using positive Vetassess issued in 2007. Vetassess did not state expiry date for the assessment and I have remained in the same position with the same company from 2002 till now. My agent thinks it is necessary to get it redone. Would appreciate some advice and feedback. Thanks in advance.

    Thanks ompragash, This is exactly the info I needed. I applied 176 FS in 2009 before the legislative change. They emailed me the exact letter as reehan received only that I had my occupation removed from sol. I am now trying to get qld ss as they are sponsoring my occupation. My agent asked me to redo my ielts and vetassess and submit eoi to qld. After we get invitation to apply, we will try to update DIAC via form 1022. We hope we do not have to repay the visa charge again.
