    Shipping costs

It was about $11k for a 40ft container from Melbourne. I think 20ft was about $8k...?
  2. Oh, will have to try this. We have just realised the same problem (aus printer in the UK) with our Epsom printer

    This year...

Happy New Year SKW. We fly back next week
  6. Similar-ish in terms of premium but main difference is in the UK I have found is if you are covered for the particular health issue, you don't pay anything (up to limit). In Aus, I haven't quite figured out how it works but I pay a "gap" if I need to see a consultant each time. But (depending on the cover you get), you can claim on dental and optician (including contact lenses and glasses) costs in Aus.
  7. Hi Pam, we transferred from BUPA UK to BUPA Australia and kept all our pre existing conditions. We will be doing the opposite in a few weeks time and BUPA has confirmed that all our pre existing conditions will remain. The only thing is ensure that there is no lapse of cover in between when you are transferring. You may end up paying a slight overlap between the two policies depending on how organised you are but small price to pay to maintain any pre existing I think. Oh, BUPA also said we have to transfer within 30 days of landing. Not sure if this applies to all other private health insurers.
  8. Hi Stan, totally sympathise with your situation. My question would be how certain are you that the employer/your boss will honour their current stated intention to sponsor you at the end of 2 years and not find some reason not to when the time comes. Is there any way of finding out if they have a record of doing so in the past? The last thing you would want is to put up with the situation for 2 years to be let down at the end of the road.
  9. Hi. We used Letton Percival and the insurance cost was exactly the same as UK-Oz (we used them on the way out here as well).
  10. Hi, we have a 3-year old black ford fiesta hatchback (manual) for sale. It has a low mileage of 47,500km. Currently advertised at $11.5k but as we are looking for a quick sale, happy to negotiate if you are interested. Full details of the car here on carsales.com.au : http://carsales.mobi/cars/details/?R=SSE-AD-2521168&silo=Stock&Cr=3&vertical=Car&sdmvc=1 We are in eastern suburb, Victoria.
  11. Have a good trip home Gary and a white Christmas We have delayed our shipping till after Christmas. Positive of that is we won't have an empty house for Christmas. Downside is we won't get our stuff until a month after we land....
  12. Hmmm... That's good to know, thanks. Our stuff is being shipped back at the start of December but we won't be leaving till January. So, was wondering whether to not ship our fridge freezer or to hire one
  13. Hi. Does anyone have any recommendations of companies in Melbourne who hires out white goods for a few weeks? We are looking to hire a small fridge for a few weeks. There seem to be quite a few companies when I do a google search but was wondering if anyone had any personal experience. Thanks in advance.
  14. Haha. These are not the fridges you are looking for Guess I am trying to work out whether it is worth doing it. Ours is a one year old fridge
  15. Is this quite straightforward to do or does it require some preparation..? Thanks

    A bit of a dilemma

Hi LRC, I'm glad you had a good weighing up session. I'm sure the next place you find will be even more perfect than this one. Perhaps there is another location which has the all the tick boxes but slightly closer? Guess having more time to get a bigger deposit together is a good thing too

    A bit of a dilemma

No, but we should not stop dreaming; otherwise, life would be far too boring

    A bit of a dilemma

If finances permit (including amounts for the reno), then the distances aren't that bad if your son's friends come from all over anyway - is there a dedicated school bus or will it be a public bus? If the former, then he will have fun on it 50 minutes to work with city traffic is a small price to pay I guess - a pain but I find that it's a great time (I will be going back to a 30/40 minutes drive) to gather my thoughts and have some 'me' time. How about hubby's work? Is that going to be very far as well? Good luck with your thinking x
  19. Haven't done it yet but this weekend I really need to start sorting out our stuff before the packers come in less than a month's time!!

    A bit of a dilemma

Oh, LRC, that is a dilemma. What lovely views this place has. The distance is definitely a downside. I think the hardest is whether your son will mind not living closer to his friends. Especially as he gets older but not yet old enough to drive (don't know how old he is). Is the area one that you have been looking at already? x
  21. Oh, sorry. Did not mean for it to come across like that. Was just quoting what was on the IMMI/DIAC website. Didn't mean to offend
  22. I didn't think it was a grey area as it is spelt out very clearly on the IMMI/DIAC website that "As a (457) sponsor you must: - pay travel costs to enable sponsored people to leave Australia" It then goes on to say: "You must pay reasonable and necessary travel costs to enable the sponsored person and their sponsored family members to leave Australia. They must ask you in writing for you to pay the costs. We can also make a written request on their behalf. The costs will be considered reasonable and necessary if they include all of the following: - travel from the sponsored persons usual place of residence in Australia to their place of departure from Australia - travel from Australia to the country (for which the sponsored visa holder holds a passport) and intends to travel to - economy class air travel or, where that is not available, a reasonable equivalent." http://www.immi.gov.au/Visas/Pages/457.aspx
  23. Hi, our friends were supposed to be visiting us this Christmas but unfortunately, his wife is not well and will have to have a surgery so they won't be able to travel to Australia after all. As a result, we have some spare Ashes tickets at the MCG to sell (tickets are in the Family Zone area) - Boxing Day Day 1 test at the MCG (26/12): 2 adults & 4 child tickets in Bay M31 - Ashes Day 3 at the MCG (28/12): 1 adult & 2 child tickets in Bay M36 Additionally, we also have some ODI and T20 cricket tickets at the MCG (England fan zone) for January for sale. We bought these before we confirmed our flight dates to the UK and so won't be able to use them now: - ODI at MCG (12/1/14) 1 adult 2 children - T20 at MCG (31/1/14) 1 adult 2 children If anyone is interested, PM me? Thanks x
