  1. Hi scubaslocs. To meet people here in the Redlands, you really need to get involved in various groups and activities. There are a number of running/walking groups - check the local paper and the library website, but off the top of my head there is a group that meets every Saturday in Thornlands and another that meets at Victoria Point, and numerous others. Also try Meetups on line - there are a number of groups that organise drinks and dinner get togethers locally for various age groups. It depends what your interest are. I am relatively new to this area and I've found that I've met a number of people at the local dog park. You would be surprised just how many people are in the same situation as you........you've just got to get out and join a number of groups until you find the one that is right for you - from there friendships grow!
  2. Anyone arriving from another country - or city within Australia, would do best to rent first. As I said before the Redlands grow on you and you get to know what areas within the Redlands you prefer to others. For me I find it strange that I have settled so well. I've always lived in big cities around the world and always made sure that I was close to good public transport. Who would have thought....I now drive everywhere and live on an acreage and really like it. I don't have to go to Brisbane and so rarely do....I find everything that I need here. When I do go to Brisbane I usually take the bus - the parking is too expensive in Brisbane. I know that other parts of the Redlands are better serviced by public transport than where I am so overall, I don't think public transport is too bad.
  3. I've lived close to Victoria Point for a couple of years now. It's like a big country town. Lots of Brits, South Africans, NZ's and "Blow Ins" from other parts of the country live in the Bayside area. It is a distance from the city but an easy commute to Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the airport. House prices are also affordable. I actually really like living here. So many people are new to the area that it is easy to meet new friends. I believe that its a healthy place to bring up kids. Not the most sophisticated of places....but hey this is Queensland, Australia! It grows on you!
  4. Glad to hear that you've had no problems.......unfortunately I don't know anyone who has used a house sitter.
  5. Hi we are planning on going away for a month's holiday and we hate the thought of our dog spending that length of time in a kennel. I found a site advertising for house sitters and I was wondering if anyone had any good or bad experiences with getting some one to look after their house and pets. It's a little daunting having someone that I don't know living in my home.
  6. We are a young at heart 50 plus retired couple who have been living in Bayside for the past 9 months. We keep ourselves busy walking, going to the gym and going out for lunches and movies etc, but find it difficult meeting new people and making new friends. Are there any other people who are having similar difficulties? I would appreciate any ideas about what groups or activities are about where we might fit in. Thanks.
  7. Hi everyone, we are a 50 plus young at heart retired couple living in Bayside for the past 9 months. We keep busy keeping fit and get out and about regularly for lunch movies etc, but at our age it seems particularly difficult meeting new people and making friends. Any one else have a similar experience? We would appreciate any ideas as to groups or activities in the area where we might fit in. Thanks.
  8. Poor you.....poor dog! That's a hard one and sorry I don't know what I would do. We have a 5 month old puppy who is adorable I know that after such a very short time in our family I would have difficulty leaving him behind! Best of luck with your decision.

    Buderim

Yes, only visited the once but it had a really nice feel to it and looked very pretty. We had lunch in the pub...great views and the food was excellent. We then took a drive to Mooloolaba but I was NOT impressed.

    Buderim

Hi, new to this site. Does anyone live in or around Buderim? I would love to be close to the beach, but also live in a place with a sense of community. We are a retired couple in our 50's so we don't have to consider schools. Any thoughts about lifestyle and costs of living in this part of the world would be appreciated. Thanks.
