  1. I'm not commenting on perth because I haven't been but I've noticed some people say that it's dullsville and everybody goes to sleep at 9pm and there's nothing for young people like my age then other people complain that places like northridge (did I get the name right?) are full of drunk people etc... So which is it lol

Everything above is mostly incorrect...Perth is only the dullsville you make of it..if you are dull in the first place...

.... maybe on weekends in northbridge you will encounter drinkers, umm well no different to the outside of any district that has pubs..and clubs...but unlike downtown LA you might not get shot at..

....and on weekends you will see families eating out in the restaurants on francis st..... students and late night hunger hipsters hang out til the wee hours..yes on any weeknight the roe st chinatown dishes out food until 2am..

Those that go to bed at 9pm...well my kids do...

I know me and mr Tonyman are known to be up to 1.30 most nights

  2. I think it was a very one sided article written as a promotion in mind, however the positives it highlights are all true.. and.they even mentioned the community radio station in Mt Lawley but came short of mentioning its name as RTRFM 92.1 its the best FM specialist music non commercial around in the world. And its also broadcast online to the world. Is this station hip? Damn right is is right here in Perth.

PS listen in at 7pm (just over an hour) for anyone into everything post-rock....

  3. I thought the argument was also about being close to good school catchment areas...? not that I believe thats a strong indicator that your kids will be guaranteed academic success.. in fact the catch 22 is that good schools may even cost you more .. add council rates etc and families just get priced out of market. I live about 20km north of the city as the crow flies and we paid less than 500k for a 4x2 in the mid 2000s on a (almost)quarter acre 80s block. We rarely go to the city, in fact we commute more to Joondalup as its closer, less people than city and parkings easier. Schools are decent and our kid goes to a private catholic school. So it can be done, but not quite as accesible now that population is exploding and housing demand is at premium. There are a lot of estates cropping up where you least expect though and the big gap of desert and pine plantations to Ellenbrook is quickly filling up fast with new housing. I cant say I quite like the rate of expansion. Its inevitable but part of the charm of perth has been space, and that will eventually be the final frontier. Perhaps when the density to the future is maxed out.. it will be time for us to retire, sell up and make that treechange down to Margaret River or Pemberton ..

  4. The tourists are here in numbers. I passed by Alfreds in Guildford for a burger and line was full of foreigners not just Asians but Sth Americans and Europeans. Add this there were lots of planes flying low just about to land.. may be different in.Cairns at this time?

  5. From what I saw on my very brief visit to.Cairns few years back the hospitality industry is heavily dependent on tourism? Therefore if this drops then naturally businesses will suffer? I dont think its nationwide but industry specific. Like Qantas links to tourism to .. I think if you do the number crunching on the tourism industry there lies your answer. Are the backpackers still around? Maybe they are heading back to Europe for the summer..

  6. Thought this site might assist those who are contemplating migration and what they would get if they worked in their desired industry. Please bear in mind having a degree and experience in the UK doesnt automatically get you in the door. In some cases retraining or further supplemental qualifications may be required. Hope this helps. Best of luck.
