  1. I'm not sure on the specifics, I only know there are 2 paths to PR from a 457. If you take the path that you're talking about you don't need to do the skills test as your 2 years working covers that. With the other path, as far as I know, you can apply for PR at any time as long as your employer is willing to sponsor you. As a side note, we've now got our visa and should be in Adelaide in June :-)
  2. If your employer is willing to sponsor you then you can apply for PR at any time during your time on the 457. From what I can make out, if you apply for PR before the 2 year mark then you need to do the skills assessment, but if you wait until after 2 years you can skip the skills assessment
  3. You need Healthcare for gaining PR from 457 status?
  4. Hoping someone can advise me here. I've read lots of info on the requirement for health insurance on a 457 visa, however, our Case Officer has advised us that Travel Insurance will be enough to satisfy the 457 requirements. After being in Australia for 2 years our intention would be to apply for PR, so my question is this; when it comes time to apply for the PR is there a requirement that we've had Health Insurance during our time on a 457? Thanks
  5. If you both have a smart phone, like maybe a cheap android phone then you can use apps like WhatsApp and viber to text to and from OZ for free. All you need is a data allowance on your mobile, or connect the phone to wifi. Viber also allows you to call to/from OZ for free
  6. My wife applied for registration to the adelaide office at the beginning of November, all our documentation was in order so nothing was queried, the eligibility email/letter only came in last week. The eligibility letter is enough for emigration, the final leg of registration is done when you visit an ahpra office upon your arrival in Australia. For the sponsorship and job part, my wife had a telephone interview in October, then a face to face interview in the uk, job offer just before Christmas, employer supplied TRN for visa maybe around 2 or 3 weeks ago, we finally submitted the visa on Saturday. The 457 is usually processed very quickly, sometimes in a matter of a couple of weeks if we're very lucky. But keep in mind this visa is a 4 year temporary visa. My wife's employer is offering PR after 3 months so that's our plan. Maybe someone else will chip in with some advice if you're planning on a different visa type. There are pro's and cons to the 457 which I'm well aware of
  7. Hi Rebekah. You don't need ielts for nurse registration if you studied in the uk. However, ielts may be required when it comes to emigration visas, depending on what visa you opt for. My wife is being sponsored on a 457, nurses don't need ielts on this visa
  8. My mistake, I see that in your post now
  9. I was under the impression that 457 visa holders were entitled to Medicare, that is if your own country has a reciprocal agreement. I'm from the UK, heading out on a 457 very soon, and our understanding is we are covered by medicare but need health insurance to cover additional things like ambulances
  10. Thanks for that Kerry, my wife's registration eligibility came in a few days ago, actually a few hours after paying for a 2nd letter to be sent by the nmc! The nmc have been really good though and are processing a refund. Good luck in the job hunt :-)
  11. Yeah you can have a copy of the cv, how do I get it to you without you posting your email address on here?
  12. So going on those timescales she'd have to work for 2 years on the 457 for the Transitional Stream to PR, or work for just over 18 months on the 457 to go for direct entry employer sponsored. My thinking then is she's probably best going for the transitional stream, or am I missing something? Thanks
  13. My wife has been offered 457 sponsorship (nurse) with PR after 3 months, but she's only got just over 1 year's work experience. So my thinking was she'd need to stay on the 457 for 2 years then go for PR, but going on some of these comments maybe I'm wrong. Can anyone advise if she'd be eligible for PR after 3 months on 457 even with only around 18 months experience?
  14. We keep being told everything is in order but they're waiting on the certificate of good standing to arrive from the nmc, nmc say it was posted on 7th February. Any idea how long it took for ahpra to receive your document from nmc? It's really starting to stress us
  15. Hi kezkev My wife responded to an advert in the Nursing Standard, it was an agency called Healthcare Elite recruiting for a private hospital in Adelaide. My wife is an orthopaedic scrub nurse, what nursing do you do? Can I be nosey and ask why you turned down the job offer?
  16. As far as I'm aware there's no technicality that would prevent you getting a 457 sponsorship without having work experience, the difficulty may be finding an employer willing to sponsor you. I'm not an expert though so someone else may give better advice
  17. My wife's been a qualified nurse for just over 1 year, she's managed to find an employer who are sponsoring her on a 457. Everything has ground to a halt though as the ahpra registration isn't through yet, she applied for that at the beginning of November, so I'd advise you to do that as soon as you're qualified. Good luck :-)
  18. We're taking our cat too so I'd be interested to hear any replies to this thread
  19. Hi My wife has 1 year's experience as an orthopaedic scrub nurse, her ahpra registration is almost complete. Is there any chance of 457 sponsorship in the Melbourne area? Would consider other states for the right job. Thanks
