  1. Moved out 2 1/2 weeks ago and loving it, based in a bundy hospital rental at the moment, looking at rentals by the coast. Public transport isnt the best, but everyone is really friendly. Been to the beach more in the past two weeks than I had in the previous two years!
  2. Have now been Married 10 1/2 days Visa (Wife's) is in place Wife's job is confirmed with two possible starting dates (both by end of Sept) Applied for jobs for me yesterday. What did I do today.... Transferred money to our Oz bank account! Head down under in 19 days
  3. I think the immobiliser system is a good idea, but to redo it every 15 minutes seems odd, does the car cut out suddenly which would be dangerous, blowing into the device while driving would be dangerous, or does it warn that it's going to be required soon and to pull over, giving them the time to pay off some bystander to fake the test again. Still better than not doing anything.
  4. Hi, I've done some googling on your behalf as this will be of interest to us soon. basically, so long as its been treated, it should be fine. Most shop bought UK furniture is treated. Don't try to bring anything that contains hollow wood, eg cane furniture or bamboo furniture. i can't see your chopping board being an issue but if you contact a shipping company they will be able to say more accurately. heres where I got my info: http://australiainternationalshipping.com/removals/moving-furniture-to-australia/ and http://www.johnmason.com/shipping/toaustralia/movingfaq/
  5. If you have a games console or DVD player etc that you use with it at the moment, they will continue to work with your existing TV, what they won't do is pick up Oz TV channels. Sure someone else will have a more in depth answer for you, if not ill look more into it when I have chance
  6. Hi, this seems like a good a place as any to ask... TV down under, what are the options and cost implications. In the UK we have freeview and Sky, freeview is erm Free, whereas Sky ironically costs the earth. How does that compare to Oz TV? Also I think I understand from these forums that my current TV won't pick up Oz channels, is that right?
  7. When we told my parents we were looking at moving down under, they were very upset because of the distance, but also understanding. We've still to tell my brother & sister. I think since i moved away to Scotland 3 years ago, the blow will be softened a bit as they are now used to me not being 5 minutes away, and missing out on the family gatherings. I'm close to my family and am not underestimating how tough it will be for me and I've had time to think about it. Hope your family comes around.
