    Plastic bags

The free bin liner argument does not really stack up, because for every person that keeps their plastic bags for bin liners etc, thousands throw theirs away as soon as they get home.
  2. Ironic, if you ask me, that he wants to be a spokesman for protecting the interests of wildlife, yet openly shoots them and arranges for his brother to do the same: http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2011/09/22/peta-begs-kate-middleton-to-stop-prince-william-from-shooting-birds/ Call me cynical, but I have never met an animal lover who shoots.
  3. Is it a criminal offence to knowingly breach the conditions of your visa?

    Plastic bags

So apparently the government want to introduce a 5p charge per plastic bag to discourage their use. But here is a novel idea. Why don't supermarkets just ban plastic bags altogether? This will encourage customers to bring a bag-for-life, or something, with them to collect their groceries, which would overnight drastically reduce the impact they have on the environment. Thoughts?
  5. Not surprised so many Pommy HR advisors are struggling to get a job in Oz. No disrespect intended, but what do they know about Australian labour laws? Next to nothing. If I was an Australian employer I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. Another thing I don't get is why anyone would want to leave the UK at the moment. The economy (and weather) is picking up. The feel good factor is back. 2013 has been an awesome year so far for Britain on so many levels. I have Aussie PR but I am in no rush right now to leave a country in recovery for one that is in sharp decline. Britain is beginning to boom and I'm lovin' it.
  6. I'll never understand how some people can not see how important good weather is to people's lives. I love the UK but often knock it because of the awful weather we have had over the last few years. In fact it is one of the main reasons why I wanted to go to Oz. When the sun is out though, everything changes. It is not just a subtle change either. It's a massive change for the better. If we had summers like the one we are having now every year, I would seriously think about staying in UK. For me, sunshine is one of the most important things in my life! It sounds petty, but it's true!
  7. As well as hosting more Summer Olympics than any other city and being the home of football (Wembley), cricket (Lords), tennis (Wimbledon), rugby (Twickenham) and the best marathon in the world, London will this weekend be crowned as the Sporting Capital of the World: http://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/as-70000-cyclists-take-to-the-streets-this-weekend-for-ridelondon-the-city-is-hailed-as-sporting-capital-of-the-world-8743570.html Just another reason why it stands head and shoulders above every other city in the world.
  8. We (my syndicate) won £2.70*! Woop! £0.60 each. Yeah baby!
  9. Oh no!! South Africa is an impossibly stunning country with so much to offer, but as you may have gathered it is also has a lot of crime. Tourists, though, are generally fine and I am not aware of any incidents when South Africa held the recent World Cup.
  10. Yeah I've heard Durban has gone down hill. Drakensberg mountains, however, are stunning. Would love to do a Comrades one day from Pietermaritzburg to Durban (if my body ever lets me, which is doubtful).
  11. I have heard it been said that Cape Town is even more stunning than Sydney.
  12. You're probably right. It will be interesting to follow the trial together with the Pistorius trial, when that happens.
  13. If he did, yes, but how confident would you be about getting a fair trial in SA?
  14. I would love to go to Cape Town, but not sure if I could live there now. The murders there have been absolutely horrific. Interesting that Dewani is to be extradited to SA for the alleged murder of his wife. If he is convicted and sent to a SA jail...it will be a fate worse than hell.
  15. What did you think and is it a country you could hypothetically ever see yourself living in?
  16. Replace Surfers Paradise with Alice Springs.
  17. Question : if you won a million what would be the first thing you would buy?
  18. That's right. Just set up a syndicate at work and we are going to buy about 15 tickets. If we won the mill, it would be about £200k each. We are already considering whether we would go into work on Monday if we did win....I don't think I would somehow!
  19. Don't forget to enter. You can fly first class to Oz!
  20. Good luck, you're leaving a great city behind, but then again, everyone seems to leave Leeds!
  21. Here's an interesting observation: I've never met a young Australian from Sydney or Melbourne who would move to Perth. From their point of view Perth, like Adelaide, is a city you move away from to go to a more buzzing city. At the end of the day, Perth is extremely small and remote, and for young people it will get boring very quickly.
  22. Just re-do IELTS. As a native speaker you really should be getting 8's in each category with very little problem.
